IE Can't Display Graphics (JPG, BMP)

I created a web site using HTML with style sheets and during testing with different browsers, IE (Win2K) is unable to display *some* of the JPGs and BMPs referenced by an <img> tag. It just seems to hang (it says 'dowloading picture http://www...' but never does) and a direct URL reference to the graphic images just hangs as well. Interestingly enough, IE on different machines (XP and Win2K) works fine as do Netscape and Opera on all platforms. This is a very strange problem... any ideas???

Have you tried letting other people see the webpage? If not, look in your Internet Options, under Multimedia, there could be something there you need ticked.

Not directly related to your problem, but BMP is a very bad choice for web graphics.

Yeah, the BMPs appear to be the root of the evil. Interestingly enough BMPs cause *some* versions of IE to hang (other versions of IE, Opera, and Netscape all work fine). And once you hit a BMP, ALL other graphics from ANY other web site will hang in that instance of IE. That had me chasing my tail for a while b/c now JPEGs and GIFs wouldn't work. The only cure is to shut down IE and start over again. At any rate: BMPs bad, GIFs/JPEGs good... got it!

The fact that they're huge files doesn't really help either.
