Pass Thru?
Hi,
I've just read over my school's policies for Computer Room usage. Most of them are basic, no e-mailling, no downloading, no copying software, ....But there is one rule that says
There is to be no student "pass thru" to other servers without specific teacher authorization.
I've searched for pass thru servers and their relation to security and schools and can't find anything. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this means?
Thanks

I presume they mean dont connect to other servers. E.g dont connect to multiple servers to cause a long trace chain. It is used when hacking in order to increase the time it takes to trace you.

i.e. telnet to one server, then telnet from it to another server, and from it to another server, ... and then finally into the destination server.
Or with Windows, authenticate yourself with one server, and use it to authenticate you with another server etc. etc. until you access the desination server.
