I had my car broken into about 1 year ago and they did the same thing, only they actually got in. The ripped out my passenger side door lock and trunk lock. They stole my stereo, amp, and 8 inch bass tube.
As far as I can tell, they tried to tear my trunk open, but couldn't get in, so they busted out the passenger side lock and went in through the backseat.
Fortunately they left my driver side lock alone, so I was still able to use my car.
As far as the equipment, all of it only totalled about $300 to buy new, so they might have been able to get $100 on the street. I had my amp bolted to the trunk of my car, and I can't see how it would even be usable anymore because it was ripped to shreds. I could see the metal pieces all over the place from it.
If you ask me, all the work they put into getting it all wasn't really worth it.

I didn't have full coverage. Was still in college and it was not affordable, so I only had liability coverage.
Oh and I forgot to mention that they stole my stereo, but I took the face plate inside with me. So it was essentially useless.

I didn't have an alarm, but it would not have mattered anyway. At that apt complex, there was a big parking problem, meaning that I had to park across the complex a lot because there were not spaces by mine. So I wouldn't have heard it go off and they would have disabled it within 30 seconds anyway.
I complained to the manager of the complex, but they just told me it wasn't their fault and they were actively working on the parking situation. Of course they were, but at 10am when everyone was already gone. I moved outta there as soon as my lease was up.

No i didnt have an alarm
I didnt take the faceplate off. But the police officer on the phone said because they didnt break the glass they were probably trying to steal the whole car.

I had tinted windows, so that would have made it more a pain to get through. I no longer have that vehicle. When I graduated I purchased a new vehicle, never did fix the locks, I had a red car, so I went to store and bought some red tape (the kind you put over your tail light when it is broken) and it blended in with the care pretty well. I know it looked tacky, I didn't want to put $$ into something I was planning on getting rid of in the next 6-8 months.

Man, that sux. I had my house broken into a couple months ago. Took all of my wife's jewelry and a couple guitars. The worst part was, I came home for lunch for 1/2 hour and the guy apparently was in my house hiding while I was there. Prolly better I didn't see him any way.
