Question Disable animations in Internet Explorer

Anyone know if it's possible to turn off display of animations on web pages while browsing?

I routinely disable pictures, e.g. Tools - Internet Options - Advanced tab - and uncheck Show Pictures
To speed up pages over my slow dial-up connection.

But these @#$%^&&*() animated ads are not only annoying, but make your screen look like your playing computer games instead of doing serious research.

Related question: any way to sort of "hot key" the disabling/enabling of the Show Pictures state?

    Thanks, DaveBo

Not that I know of, but if you keep "show pictures" unchecked you can simply right-click on a picture (and click "show picture") to load it.

    Not yet

    Thanks for the replies.

PC_Madness, the "play animations" check doesn't seem to do it.
I have that cleared yet the animations, e.g. right here in VBforums, still play.

Some of the ads on here are flash ads. Right click on the ad and see if you get the Macromedia Popup or the normal IE one.

The alternative is to look for a file posted by DigitalError, that blocks the ads via the hosts file.

Obviously this will only really work on this site though...
