Its illegal to distribute worms and viruses, but you can write whatever you want.
As for spyware, don't know about illegal, but I wouldn't use things that have spyware in them.
Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you just water down your vodka.
Take credit, not responsibility

I know, the mods better watch this young one.
I don't care how much you sit there and say you are not making a worm or virus, it looks suspect in my book.

He'll get no help from me. He's trying to write a virus that buries itself in the registry, copies itself all over the victim's machine, and doesn't show up in the task manager. Next, he'll ask how to shell out "format c: /u" from VB.

Adware for home use? Are you going to try to sell something to yourself? Get lost.

Interesting.
The guy who got banned in Dec 2003 for hiding the app in his program said he'd be back w/ a different name.
Walmart4Life registered in Jan 2004.

Lol, i like that, how about a virus/worm for home use !
As for AdWare i think it depends on country, one could sue you using Privacy Law if you installed Adware without their knowledge and sent personal information. It could also be catagorised as stealing information depending on what your adware is doing, its a grey area.........

Sorry dont mean to be rude, but it sounds like damn annoying! What are you doing? Is it one of those Click X time and earn few pence? Come on do you think its worth it?
As a software developer we should have some ethics. I dispise adware and junk email.
Like someone mentioned the SnakeMaker guy got banned for doing something similar, after that no body trusts any one in this forum. Its a shame that only few can tarnish the good faith we had on every one.
Hope you forget about your adware campaign

What he doing is an outwar.com method to get more clicks and yes is adaware and yes don't DO iT!!!!
tha program goes to registry so it saves itself there then it start clicking their outwar link so they get a hit.... due to the program saved on registry everytime u turn on your computer tha program will launch stealth mode tho because is visible = false and is hidden from task manager.... that's all he is doing
walmart don't do that is not worth it try other ways to get your hits
so yes i agree is illegal because you saving and running the program automatically wihtout the user permission

You keep saying that you are not writing any dodgy code, fair enough, but you must understand that when you combine most of your posts you will have the solution to create an application that would be considered dodgy by 99.9% of computer users.
I hate spam, viruses, trojans and unwanted scripts running on my PC, as do most people here. If we suspect that someone, in this case YOU, is trying to write code that is considered dodgy then you will get a very negative response.
It doesn't help that you are a new user either. Users of VBF are very careful on what code to hand out when they suspect it might be used wrongly.
The SnakeMaker thread is a classic example, cheers PC_madness for the link.
Ad-ware is not illegal in itself, but the user MUST be notified that it will be installed. If it's installed without the users knowledge then it's considered a trojan, and this is illegal.
You do realise that if you do create something dodgy, not saying you will, but if you do, then all these posts will be used as evidence in a court of law? You may laugh and take the piss, but this is serious...your ISP will have you. Be careful, u'll be suprised at the data trail footprint you have already left on the internet
Plus, most people have Firewalls these days, so if I came across something like your code then I would block it.
What is it EXACTLY you are trying to do?
And don't say creating ad-ware for your home PC use...no-one buys it, sorry. That's what makes people think twice about giving you code...
So far from your posts I think you want an app that copies itself, runs in the background while not showing in task manager, and loads it'sself when the PC is booted up. Oh and not forgetting the web posts about running scripts, which I would assume could eb used to copy the exe onto a PC....in all it deffinately smells fishy.
You are trending on a thin line, just watch yourself as people will see your posst and not even read them if they think u will write a dodgy app...that's just the way it is I am afraid.
Hope that helps.

spyware illegal
Look any dumbass beginning programmer can make a virus in windows its easy. If programmers wanted too write a virus or worm and wanted to waste their time its would be easy. **** i could if i felt like wasting enough time. Windows has about 1000 holes in it that could be exploited. Windows is a very unsecure OS. Try hacking unix that would be a bigger accomplishment.

Writting a silly virus IS easy...but writing one that hides itself and so on isn't...u would have to search for the code first
Linux, linux...it's all about linux isn't it ?!

Adware also slows comp down, which makes people angry.
Plus, the user doesnt know what information it is sending to there servers - we know you are watching us
