starting up linux [solved]
I installing debian linux, set up the user account, and I restart and it prompts me to enter username and password, so i do, then it goes to a dos type command thing. How can I view linux the graphical one?
im very very new to linux

If you have opted to install a GUI such as KDE or GNome then you'll need to type startx at the prompt to start it up.

i never remember being asked to install a gui, and if a try to type in startx, it gives a unknown command message

k, i installed kde, got a hole bunch of errors, so i gave up and installed windows :P

You give up too easy.
Debian is not one of the most user friendly distro's. Why not give Mandrake or Slakware a try.

alright, ill give mandrake a try 
which version do your recommend? theres a mandrake move, mandrake community and a couple others, what is the best one?

I would recommend Mandrake 9.2.
