    service fails to start

when I reboot my comp and try to start windows it takes about 1 or 2 minutes before it shows the desktop. this one error is in the event viewer. apprently one of the services isnt running:
The mrtRate service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

umm I looked in the services but couldnt figure out what the heck mrtRate was. Anyone has a clue? is this a known service?

Which one of these do you have installed on your computer or have uninstalled recently?

    Quicken
    Quickbooks
    Earthlink.....

If its one of the Quicken/Quickbooks, they have a fix on their site.

If its Earthlink(total access) back up your registry and kill this key:

    H_KEY_Local_Machine\system\services\
    CurrentControlSet\VxD\mrtRate...

If its none of the above.......carry on.

hmm this is getting on my nerves
apparently the issue was because of quicken 2000 but I have the 2004 version. Anyways I found two solutions on their site, none of which worked. I also uninstalled/reinstalled quicken, but still the same problem...

isnt this supposed to be a service which shows us in the windows services list?

Not sure what you mean here...If "us" is supposed to be "up" then I do...

I would just take it out of the start up path [msconfig\startup] or [regedit], then see if you get the error when you start Quicken.

    hmm sorry about the confusion
If you look in my first post, the event log called it the mrtRate "service" so thats why I was thinking that its a service.

I have nothing in startup or registry, etc (checking the startup apps with system Mechanic, and there is nothing besides the apps that I added on my own). So I dont know why the heck does windows look for mrtRate during startup
