remove icons from within code tags [RESOLVED]

It is so frustrating to find interesting code like this only to have it messed up by a bunch of icons. Do you guys have the php source for this forum? There must be a way to not display icons within code tags?

Great, thanks for the info. I didn't realize that they maintain the code. I'll make my suggestion to them immediately.

This may sound really dumb, but do you know where I can translate the icon into the actual code? I may be too old, but I don't know what character combination produces a "blue sad face".

This is not really a problem to report to vBulletin either. As Tom stated, you can avoid the smilies by simply clicking the Disable Smilies in This Post option. As such, vBulletin has already addressed it.

In the thead you referenced above, I went ahead and clicked this option on the two post that had the big listings.

You can also post the icons into your messages by clicking on them in the box that displays to the left when you are entering a message. There are actually 20 you can choose from right now.

I went to vBulletin and found out that vbforums is using version 2.3.4 and version 3 does not parse smiles within code.

But what if you want to use smilies OUTSIDE of the code? You can't, because you disabled it.

Another thing you can do is put something like [b][/b] between whatever makes the smiley. So if you want to use :mad: in a post without it turning into , type :[b][/b]mad:

It's a lot of work, but it works, and you can use smilies elsewhere in the post.
