to deploy the reports...
hello,
recently i was deliberated which edition of crystal reports should i buy.
my goal is to create reports and distirbute them with my applications.
the client will recieve compiled rpt's files and will use my application to print them.
i emailed Seagate distributor and recieved the following response.
Please reply if you understand whether i can use the "Developer edition " or most buy the "Advanced Developer edition" :
Distributer reply :
Thank you for your email and interest in Crystal products.
Please note that you can distribute .rpt files with Crystal roducts.
End users can then print the reports. The Professional edition will be sufficient for this.
but, if you will integrate Crystal into another application or use any rogramming languages, you will need at least the DEVELOPER edition.
Should you then decide that you would like to deploy the reports, then you would need the Advanced Developer Edition of Crystal Reports 10.
Thanks
Eran.

There is not much difference between Developer and Advanced editions. Edition Comparison
It sounds like the Developer Edition is all you'll need.

I'm under the impression that the Dev edition will be fine if all you want to do is manipulate canned reports. But if you also want to allow users to modify them then your users will need an additional license.

thanks for your reply
if you also want to allow users to modify them
when you say "modify" you mean changing the data that is shown in the reports ?
what i mean that the starting point is that the report is being updated from a database. the report's structure can't be changed but the report recieve data from access database.
Can i buy the "developer" ?
thanks for replying
Eran.

Buy the developer edition - its all you need.
Or all you think you need - until you want to do something and then realize you should have bought the Advanced edition.
I'm just playing with ya - stop waffling and just buy the Developer Edition. If you are that worried about which is right then buy the Advanced Edition.
