    Printer is going crazy

Everytime I turn on my PC, my printer will fudge around, making noises for awhile, then anywhere between 2 and 10 minutes after I turned the computer on, it'll print out a sheet of paper with just a U in the corner.

I now have about 70 sheets of paper with a U in the upper corner and am starting to get ticked off.

Anyone know why it's doing this and what I can do to fix it?

How about the obvious uninstall and reinstall your printer routine?

My printer doesn't come with an 'obvious uninstall' option. Just uninstall.

What printer model do you have?

If it's a Lexmark then you may as well feed the ink to your cat and put the printer out for the birds.

Have you tried the manufactuers web site and downloaded the latest drivers?

I reinstalled my drivers, updated my drivers, and unplugged and replugged the printer, but it still does it.

It'll get ready to print the page, then start flashing like it's out of paper...then 5-10 minutes later, it'll print a page with just a "U" in the corner.

    Ahhh! Any other ideas?

    BTW, it's a HP Deskjet 842C.

I know this sounds strange, but try using the wrong driver.

I've seen a couple of HP printers (I think 840C was one of them) that dont work exactly as they should with their own specific driver, but work fine with the generic HP DeskJet drivers that come with Windows.

remove all paper from the paper tray

have your printer groove on that for a while

throw a horseshoe (in the shape of a U!) at it

..complete the steps in any order

I'm running out of things to try. This printer worked great for years, maybe it's just too old.

It started happening the other day when my mom had a problem printing. She ran out of paper, but when she put more in, it just started spitting out blank paper.

So I shut it off and unplugged it, then when I plugged it back in, it was fine...or so I thought...now it has the U problem at boot.
