A menial little problem of mine

But what better place to ask then a forum full of programmers.

The problem is occasionally when under the influence of certain drugs I become like the guy in beautiful mind and I have to look at numbers. Me and my friend tonight have decided we shall find the key to pi, why pi is pi... how it is, everything. We are currently chasing two theories, one that would potentially prove that pi can be rationalized with another irrational or rational number and the other is that digits form an exact mathematical wave such as a sin, cos, or tan wav. If you look closely you can see remote patterns in the numbers 7 and 9, which must be significant somehow.

Now on to what I would ask of you guys. If somebody could produce a quick VB app, or any other app that can be turned into an executable and transfered to me, that would allow me to highlight all of the same digit in the first 10,000 digits of pi. I was thinking a rich text box that can just change the background color of a certain number or pattern of numbers (entered in a text box preferably) to allow easier highlighting and calculations on my wave theory. For now all I'd ask is the executable so it doesn't seem like I am trying to get you guys to do my school homework or something, because I think that most of you think I am insane right now. This computer at my friend's house doesn't have VB on it so I can't really do anything right now short of finding it, downloading it, installing it, and probably sleeping long before I can use it. As soon as I get home tomorrow morning I am going to attempt a similair program, and might ask for code help from anyone that does this for me. Me and my friend adam would be most greatful to anyone that does this, and when we win our nobel prize we will even share some of the winnings (of course thats after we prove something about pi )

    Thank You,
    Eric

The other kid that was hanging out with us suggested the same thing, but nobel prize winners get a million dollars, I'd be filthy ****ing rich if I could solve pi. There has to be a reason, everything that goes on in the world can boil down to a mathematical sequence you just have to know how to do it.

So, what exactly is your question?

Do you want to have the first 10,000 digits of Pi?
In that case, refer to the math section.

Or do you want a program to highlight some numbers in the first 10,000 digits of pi?
In that case, refer to the General Programming questions section.

Im home now, so I can make both... I didn't realize when I was posting it that it was at an invonvenient time for most of the world.

Why would it be an inconveniant time for the world?

Europe is awake, Asia is awake, some people in Australia and America are awake and even some parts of Africa are awake. What more do we need?

Since it's an irrational number, you'd have to use one of those infinite number series to get to it.

I'm pretty sure you can find the formula somewhere on the net.

Most of Europe is at work, most of asia is busy making all the toys and electronics that I buy, Australia is probably in the work day too, and most people are too tired to code at 1AM, although I guess 10PM isn't too late on the west coast.

Mandak: There is a thing called the pretend number system that can be used to rationalize some irrational numbers, but the problem is it is completely made up, it doesn't use real numbers and therefore has no value to my way of thinking. My current thought is that maybe there is a rational constant that can be added or multiplied to pi to make it a constant, which would prove that pi is a rational number.

Since pi is derived from infinity (infinite triangles..) I'd think it would be hard to find much of pattern in it.
Don't pay attention to this signature, it's contradictory.

I seek to disprove that and to further prove that there is no such thing as a truly irrational number. If there is a pattern I can predict what comes next, if I can tell you what comes next when it has been rationalized.

    Multiply by zero?

I posted a link to a site that had the first ten-thousend digits of pi in chit-cht awhile ago.

There are plenty of sites... as a matter of fact I have found the first 25 million digits of pi or some ridiculous number like that, I only want to work with the first 10,000 for the moment.

I picked up a book about phi (not a spelling mistake, search for golden ratio) today, maybe my mission is impossible
