    Corrupt system folder icons?

Lately i installed Microangelo (Icon maker) on my pc, and since then my icons have gone to pot. I tried un-installing the crap, but it remains unfashionable. Heres a screenie, they all show this pathetic excuse for an icon, anyway to restore them to the pretty default way?

    Cheers

Upto a bit of registry editing??

You need to check this registry key's default value:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\DefaultIcon

I'm not sure what version of Windows your using but you need to find out what the folder icon is.

    Just follow these steps:
    1. Right click on any shortcut and go to the properties menu.
    2. From there go to the change icon option and type in the filename box "shell32.dll"
    3. Look for the folder icon and count from top to bottom left to right to identify its number. The icon index number is zero based so take one away from the number. On my Win2k computer its index 3.
    4. Now change the default value of the registry key to the following value:

      %SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll,3

You may need to restart for the change to take effect.

P.S. Edit the registry at your own risk

If you have XP style icons then you just change the path of that registry key to point to the one you want.

It can be any icon you want - you can even make your own.

Yes - As long as you change the value I told you to.

Just put the path to your custom icon in place of the original value.

P.S. Again - Edit the registry at your own risk. If you screw it up it won't be down to me.
