Subscribed Forums
What is the point of Subscribed Forums?
All they do is show up in the user CP. Could you introduce something like linuxquestions.org whereby you get the option of recieving daily or weekly e-mails with all the thread titles. Otherwise subscribed forums seem completely pointless.

I still want a mail every time the Game section has a new thread created...it's not that many new threads every day...But I guess all this boils down to changing the underlaying code again. And it will not be done....

I know its not practical to send a e-mail fro each new thread. Which is why I suggested a summary e-mail.
Here's what I get every day from LXQ:
and so on.
So its only one e-mail per day with just the subjects and a link to the thread in.

That's a pretty good idea, however, if you read some other Forum Feedback threads, you pretty much already know the administrative answer to this.
It'll have the words "underlying code" in it. I think Martin got to the point where he just copy and pastes the answer...either that or he's just really consistant.

Why are all moderators afraid of modifying source code?

Jupitermedia runs a lot of forums and not just this one. The same people maintain all the forums. Not all of JM's forums are alike so they don't want to have to remember the hacks, etc. that they did at a particular forum.

Martin answered above, but their not afraid. It'd just take a lot of man hours (especially since they run many forums) to re-install all hacks and re-change all code everytime they update the forum software.

Yes we are planning on switching to 3.0 but only if resource hogging problems can be solved.

Well, if you check my thread in Chit Chat about seeing into the future, it looks like (from my futuristic screen shoot) that we still wont have v3.0 for vbForums in 2005.

I didn't know the same people maintained all the forums. I thought the moderators here at VBF maintained and tweaked all the software.
By the way - what are your other forums?

The CURRENT vBulletin release is 2.3.4. This forum is on the CURRENT release. Jupitermedia has the BETA running on one of their sites. The results are that the BETA software is currently not running efficiently enough to use elsewhere.
Until the BETA of 3.0 becomes a RELEASED product, at least have the curtesy to blame the company writing the software rather than us for the delays. The sys admins have done a number of updates to this forum over the last year to keep this forum on the current RELEASED version.
Once version 3.0 is released, then I'm happy to take any flack you want to give. Until then, be aware that the release of 3.0 is being delayed in order to make sure it is solid. I have to respect a software company that is willing to take such a stance.

Indeed. I hope Microsoft is taking notes.
