    No problem.

These bots attack us every so often. They are annoying but the cleanup is pretty straightforward. Eventually they're realize their just wasting their time.

Do you mean these posts were automated or just a term used for those spammers? If its the first then intersting, havent come accross it, may be image validation on longin would stop that .

I don't know the specifics of this one but it has all the characteristics of a bot.

The vB software login has moved to a graphic recognition checkpoint to help address the problem, but it simply means the bots need a human to register before turning on the script.

    Thanks for the reply.

Looking at the time interval between each post might give some clue. Reason i am interested in this is i have written a forum in ASP, and knowing this will help me counter these bots.

True that they can use human to register and then use bot to post. Only way to stop this will be to forcing user to login every time they visit the site. I guess it would put off user and not fair to punish every user for few spammer. I will have to give it more thought .......

    Thanks again for your insight...

It's hard/inconvenient to stop the first or even second attack from a person but we somethimes ban IP addresses and also report the activity to the provider of the IP address and to my knowledge that has always stopped any further activity.

And BTW, thanks, to the 6 or so of you who reported the posts.

No one wants to use a forum that they have to register in every time.

the key to controlling these spambots is to give the moderator the abiilty to delete the account. it's not just spambots you have to worry about, but even if it was just one post that was offensive, you need the ability to remove it.

vBulletin also restricts the interval for each user between posts. If the goal of your spambot is to post your message, obviously you just pause your bot to get around it. All the pauses really do is make it unpleasant for an individual to do it.

Gus? Where've you been? You haven't posted since the creation of the human race.

Oh, and good work here. I never saw the other threads though. Had no idea she was spamming. But the question is, shouldn't an advertiser be spamming vbforums, instead of some religious fanatic? What I mean is, I don't think a religious fanatic would make a bot just for this purpose.

Fanatics are a crazy bunch. You never know what they will do next.
Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you just water down your vodka.
