    .NET Code Wise Community

How come we are not part of the .NET Code Wise Community? I'm not sure what the requirements are but I know a lot of the other sites do not restrict themselves to just .NET.

I bet it would draw more traffic. I visit two other forums on a regular basis and although some people carry over to those as well the majority of people at the other sites have never heard of this one. I think of this site as a good resource for VB and it seems like more people should know of it.

A limited number of sites are allowed to be in the Codewise community. Additionally, the requirements for getting into the community continue to be increased. As such, a certain number of pages views, unique visitors and more must be reached in order to make it in. Additionally, only a limited number of sites on any given topic are allowed into the community. This means if VB is already well coverd, then the Codewise community won't be looking for additional VB sites to join.

CodeGuru is a Codewise community (which I run) as is DevX and 4GuysFromRolla (which are Jupitermedia sites). As such, I am very, very familiar with the program. If I thought I could get VBForums into the community, I would. At this time, we are doing things that will help. The CodeBank and UtilityBank being filled out with content will definitely help. I'm also going to work to tie this forum a little closer with the Visual Basic article section of CodeGuru and Developer.com. That too will help.

You should ask on gotdotnet why VBForums isn't in the CodeWise community and see what is said there.

I didn't know DevX was part of JupiterMedia. So it sounds like the whole CodeWise thing is a bit of a pain in the a** to get into.

Also I was just checking out version 3 of vBulletin and it looks great. Will we move to it when it is finally released or is that not cost efficent?

Being hard to get into is not a bad thing, rather it is a very good thing. The fact that it is hard for a site to get into Codewise now means that it is valuable to be in Codewise. I see the rules and regulations as a very positive thing that Microsoft has set. I'd rather work to make this site better and thus reach the 'bar' that has been set to get into Codewise. We have an inside advantage in that I know the people running the program and I know what the rules are. We simply need to keep growing and expanding this site to reach the requirements.

Version 3 looks great and is getting better and better. I've talked to our system guys about it as well. The big problem is that version 3 is a huge resource hog. I've been told that this is the biggest issue keeping us from using it on a lot of our sites right now. (I keep pushing to go to version 3 .

I see so its more a matter of time and improvement. Thanks for clearing those up for me and the quick responses.

Even then there are no guarantees. But, that is true to get to the current minimum requirements. For example, you need more than one type of interaction -- we currently have the forum. The CodeBank and UtilityBank are offering a second type of interaction.
