Speed: Actual network paths vs. mapped network drives

Is there a speed difference when browsing the network between the actual network paths (through Network Neighborhood) or mapping the path to a network drive ? I thought I'd heard somewhere that mapping the drive was faster, is this true, or are they the same ?

    Thanks....

The only speed diference is the time taken to type the address .
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)
