Search text box? [Resolved]
Is Brad updating the indexing now...because if I am trying to search for something and click the search button and get the "advanced" menu I can't get anything...but if I search in the quick search text box I am getting a lot...hmm

Try it again. If you still don't get any hits let me know the word(s) you are searching for.

Hmmmm weird...it works now....I searched foor "Square" with both big S and small s and "root"...hmmm....didn't expect this to happend...well well it works now, so I will stop complaining...

I tried searching for my name ("Hobo") and it only turned up four results. It used to turn up many, many results.
I like to see if anyone's talking **** about me so I can beat them over the head with a baseball bat.

If you do a seach for Hobo using a Search By User Name - Match Partial Name, you'll get a lot.

I don't want to search for posts made by me, I want to search for posts with 'Hobo' in them.

I used to get a few thousand.
Maybe it had to do with the forum upgrade. Who knows? Who cares?

I'm serious. It was at least a thousand. All the questions I answered and people said "thanks, Hobo" "that doesn't work, Hobo" "hey hobo"
You honestly think someone's only typed "hobo" on these forums 9 times?

I'm not trying to make myself out to be famous here. Just pointing out that the search isn't working as it used to, or something else is up.

You mean the great debacle that happened like a year ago? Because it was just a week or two ago that I last searched for 'Hobo' and got all those results.
It really doesn't matter either way. Just trying to point out that something changed.

You could do other searches, too. Mendhak only shows up about 16 times (don't remember the actual number), and all 16 are since late December 2003. He was never mentioned before that? I know that's not true.
I think something got fuggled somehow.

I moved it....I did nearly write *Unresolved*...but do I want to get banned....NOOO..........I think I just proved my point in my first post in the Unresolved thread.....some thread just turnes around and gets unresolved again....

I ran the "re-indexer" for the search remotely. I'm going to ask that someone run it directly on the server today and see if that takes care of the issue. This will happen tonight or later today.

Actually, I'm looking into the indexing in more detail now. I see it stopped before it got to the last thread. I'll pick up the indexing from where it left off.
I was re-running the indexing to allow words up to 25 characters to be included. Once completed, you'll be able to search on terms from 2 to 25 characters in size.

Just an update. I'm rerunning the recreation of the index. It has been running since my last post in this thread (couple of hours). It has indexed the first million posts and is still going strong....
The Hobo will be famous yet again as soon as the indexing is done....

....but a lot of members just call me note so that still gives me 219 pages of threads (8760 threads...
