Slow Right Clicking and Deleting in Win Explorer [Resolved]
Whenever I right click on a file, no matter which hard drive im using, it takes forever and a day for the little menu with Copy, Cut, Delete, Properties, etc to come up, same goes for when I just click a file and hit delete - it takes forever once again for the confirm delete box to come up. Though, it takes no time to open anything by double clicking. Any idea what's going on here? Help!!!
Thanks!
Also, it doesnt take any time at all to cut or copy things by clicking and dragging, just by using the delete key and by right clicking on files, ***???
Right clicking on the desktop and other places like forms, etc, renders no problems.
Its not specific files either to a specific drive, even shortcuts on another drive does it...any ideas?

Whenever you right click on a file Windows makes upwards of 1000 accesses to the registry to generate the context menu.
It sounds like you have an over grown registry. If it has been a long time since you installed the system then it may be time to redo and start with a clean slate.
A more appropriate name for Windows is Wingrows becuase from the moment you install it the registry starts growing bigger and bigger.
THere are also hundreds of apps that will clean to your registry of redundant values and keys. I used to use Reg Cleaner which is freeware - it was very efficient.
But by far the most effective way is to reinstall the lot

Na, I figured it out actually.
Since I have Norton installed apparently something happened to the autoprotect and it got corrupted or something, so a fresh install of that solved all my problems. Thanks though

Try uninstalling Norton completely and see if you're still having the problem, mine worked completely too
Just reinstall it afterwords and it works fine

I don't know really what happened . Have you heard anything about new virus or something ! anyhow , I'm fixing the registry with 'Advanced Registery Doctor' hopefully this would help . If not , I think I have to uninstall N. I'll post back in either cases .

Norton
Similar problem on Win2K system.
Right clicking on some files takes about a minute before the popup menu appears. It's Norton, but I've just been living with it.
I'll see about getting Norton reinstalled.

Ever try Norton's anit-freezing program? I swear I had more freezes and BSODs in that one day than I'll have my entire life.
