One of my clients accidentally overwrote or changed the Normal.dot template in Microsoft Word... This caused the toolbars to vanish (with no hope of getting them back), and an old letter to fire up whenever Word is started.
I assumed I could fix the problem by repairing the Word installation, but no go. We uninstalled Word and reinstalled, but the old document still remains and there are no toolbars. This baffles me.
I believe Word searches for the default template (Normal.dot), and if it finds it, uses it, otherwise it will move on to other options. A full hard drive search for Normal.dot with hidden files displayed does not turn up any results. However, it does not turn up any on my perfectly stable Word installation either.
I have no idea how to rescue Word on their machine... any ideas ?
