Colors on a 16 color system [Resolved (for now)]

I'm developing apps for old W98 systems with 32 mb ram, 640 x 480 resolution, and only 16 colors. Most of the colors in the color boxes for fore and backcolor don't display the same on the W98 machines as they do on mine, even system colors. For example, I can set a control's backcolor to white, but it still displays grey. Is there a list of what colors will work properly, or is it just trial & error? Thanks.

When you say "white", do you mean #FFFFFF, or are you talking about a system color like "Window Background"?

Perhaps setting the "FlatStyle" property might make a difference? I don't know. Right now, I'm sitting at a newly installed 98 system without anything but an Internet connection, so I can't test it.

Either Select White in the Properties/Colors, or Window in System, or whatever. ControlText works. I don't know the hex for the different colors.

Finally got it to work by selecting a blank white (at the bottom of the Properties | Colors tab). Selecting White in the upper left corner, or in Web colors, didn't work. Also set FlatStyle to system rather than standard; don't know if this helped, because Help says flatstyle doesn't apply to labels, which these controls were.
