    Beagle2 --> Has it gone?

    Lo peeps.

I'm just wondering what people's comments are on the Beagle2 saga. Do you think it's burnt up?

A friend of mine is trying to convince me that they made contact with it for 1.8ms... but they are unsure if it's was beagle2 or radio echo! I think he's deranged or whacked... cause i can't find anything that says they talked to it!

Was it just another waste of good money, like the original Beagle... or is it worth it?

    Cheers.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you just water down your vodka.

I know the reason it hasn't been heard from. Imagine if we saw some object of unknown origin plummeting through the sky. We'd shoot it down, and I'm sure the Martians are doing the same. (They missed one or two however).

Sadly... that makes perfect sense! We should all now wait for a HUGE bomb-shaped object to come flying back.

Even if THEIR probe landed... it wouldn't find any intelligent life forms 'ere!

If its true (as news reports say) that it's in a crater, then the only way we could detect its presence would be any specific radiation (if at all) that it emits.

But it's pointless to detect its presence if it can't relay back.

Wait till Jan 5, we'll find out for sure.

Why dont NASA make a really BIG robot like Optimus Prime. He could fly to mars himself cos he didn't need air and all that jazz. He had retros in his feet and he could turn into a truck and that.

Plus he had a big gun what he could shoot the baddies with. He could also teach them a good moral lesson and there would be a happy ending.

I don't know if he would be any good at analysing amino acids or rock strata, but who cares about that crap anyway? It would be cool.

He also doesn't listen to Blur or any of that gay indie music. Optimus is a Ladies robot lest we forget Orion (RIP).

    I'm not frunk.
I don't live here any more.

Actually for your information, "Beagle" is the name of Darwin's ship to the Galapagos Island. It has been 200 years since Darwin went to Galapagos and revolutionized humanity's understanding of life which lead to the foundation of evolutionary genetics. Stephen Jay Gould and a few others built their ideas on this simple expedition.

So in my opinion it is damn appropriate given the objective of Beagle 2.

As for matter of electronics... US, Japan and many other places in the world build upon the foundations developed by others and the collaboration in ideas. Transistor was developed by US and build further upon by the Japanese and Intel took it a step further. Australian cameup with the Photocopier and Xerox and others perfected and mass marketed the products we use to day. There is an economic concept called competitive advantage and natural aptitude, which is based on the unique factors of productions of each nations.

Maybe Nokia should leave the electronics for the Japanese. In defence of the British, have you ever heard of Alan Turing, James Watson or Marconi.

If space travel is only about name and electronics than it would be much simpler. Unfortunately we human are culpable of being simple minded as well.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone but one of my favorite bumper stickers was one I saw on a Triumph many years ago which said "All the parts falling off this car are of the finest British workmanship".

    Not at all.

Having lived in the UK my entire life I can fully relate to that statment. It appears as if nothing can be done properly anymore.

I firmly beleive that all products contain microchips that instuct them to break the day after the warranty runs out.

    All good quality products are:

    "Made in China"

I found it strange to see some of my sony stuff saying...

    "Made by Sony in China"

    instead of

    "Made by China"

Kind of makes you wonder why.
