My new ICE system... check this out!

    Hi peeps.

As you all know, i've been looking to change my old, tired Peugeot for something with more grunt, and more features. This is what i'm using for my ICE...

MiniPC style system and 9% touch screen TFT mounted in dashboard...
    AMD XP 3000 CPU
    512mb DDR PC 2700
    120gb 7200 (for MP3's! )
    ATI Radeon 9600 128mb
Sound Blaster Audigy 5.1 Plat (with the 6 cars speakers of course)
Cisco PCI 54mbps Wireless lan, so when it's parked on the drive... i can shove any more MP3's on to it... without trailing cables!
CD/DVD/DVD-R combo drive... so in-car movies will be sweeeeet!
TV card... and the car aerial should work fine for that!
BlueTooth integration with my Nokia 7650 and my PDA...
oh... and a cheap nasty Epson C40 in the boot! (for printing invoices!)
Either Windows XP Pro or Redhat 9 running FreeVO... probably Redhat cause I can run up2date and get e-mails whilst moving!
Automatic startup on car ignition turn-over.
A biometric USB pen-drive so all the invoices can be stored securely on my keyring... just incase the car's stolen!

This should be a great project to work on... and i'll post pics so you can laugh!

Anyone else think of anything I could add? I only want to rip the dash apart once!

Put a large subwolfer under the passenger seat like my friend got with his CRV.

Oh man do the girls love that *hint**hint* *wink**wink*

a liquid coolant system to cool the CPU to 0K

add a pizza maker, soda dispenser, a toilet and and really comfortable chair you'll never have to get up

Try to get a powerful antenna (SP?) for your WIFI. Then war driving and catching your email while driving will be easier.

You will obviously have GPS and Nav software running right? Don't forget that!

Take the time to wire up the Radar detector so the sensor is mounted to the rearview mirror, and the unit is dash mounted.

Damn, I love customizing stuff, wish I had that opportunity. Good luck with it, can't wait to see how it turns out.

The mini-fridge idea is great! I'll include that!

Yes... i'll gave GPS and Nav software running... but that's already included in the PDA! It's a HP 5550!

I'm a little worried on how i'm supposed to connect the car speakers to the PC though!

As long as the sound quality is good... i'm not really bothered if it's ultra loud! But the subwoofer for the women is a great idea.. cheers Kas'!

Anyone seen any ISO kits for car speaker to PC inputs anywhere?

    Cheers

You get a 1/8" mini jack to RCA connector to hook up to the main deck of the stereo (make sure it accepts RCA inputs), then you can control volume like normal from your stereo.

Dude, you're going to get a bunch of guys in a clapped out transit tailgating you at 70mph drawing little chalk signs on the back of your ride! heheh

Also, has it got a robot arm that pours your beer for you?
I don't live here any more.

Nope.... I'll get the cop to hold my beer if i'm ever pulled over!

    Hellswraith...

I'm trying to picture what you mean with the 1/8 mini-jacks. How on earth am I going to increase and decrease the volume without an actual car stereo head-unit? I can't use windows volume control!

I'm drawing a plan up... so I know exactly what goes where! Now i've got to find how to mount the fridge... damn you Narfy!

I can't decide if I should keep my existing head unit (Sony CDX-M730 208w RMS) and try to connect the PC's sound card to the speakers by a doubler or something... or ditch the head unit all together, and just use the DVD drive mounted in the dash!

You have to get a stereo that can accept the RCA inputs. Then you set the level of the volume on the computer once, then the stereo will take that input and allow you to adjust the volume from the head unit.

It isn't just for the women. The one my friend had came factory with his CRV and it sounded ****ing awesome. The part where the entire bottom of the passenger seat vibrates was a plus

Damn I should get 1 of those and put it in my car
