    Debug ASP.NET Server Components *Resolved*

PLEASE HELP!! I just installed a LEGAL version of Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Architect.. I create an ASP.NET application and press play.. here is the message I get:

    ---------------------------
    Microsoft Development Environment
    ---------------------------
Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. The server does not support debugging of ASP.NET or ATL Server applications. Run setup to install the Visual Studio .NET server components. If setup has been run verify that a valid URL has been specified.

You may also want to refer to the ASP.NET and ATL Server debugging topic in the online documentation. Would you like to disable future attempts to debug ASP.NET pages for this project?

    ---------------------------
    Yes No Help
    ---------------------------

I have repaired the installation and reinstalled it.. IIS is completely installed and works fine. This is a clean install of WinXP just put on a few days ago..

    Please Help

    Thanks,
    -mcd

My problem was none of the above. I uninstalled .Net framework 1.1 and reinstalled it. That fixed it. Not sure why, but all is well now. Thanks for the info.

The issue had to do with the order in which the installation takes place... i have encountered this many times... my ordering that seems to work is such, uninstall any version of the framework, VS.NET or VSS... install all the prereqs. fresh, including the framework that matches your version of VS.NET, then verify that the debuggers group was added to your User Groups and that the ASP.NET worker process was added to that group, this should be fine after a clean installation...

    hope all works!

That makes sense. I had just bought a new laptop with XP Home on it. I upgraded it to XP Pro. Then I went out to MS update site and updated my XP Pro with all updates, and yes, one of them was the .net framework 1.1. Thanks again for the help. All is working now.
