How to verify SSN?

Hi,

Does anybody know the alogirthm to verify a USA SSN (Social Security Number)?

I am making a web form and I need to verify user entries before they can proceed.

I was able to verify the Canadian SIN (Social Insurance Number) as I found the algorithm on the net. But no luck with SSN.

Please help.

Only the Social Security Number Format link is dead although unfortunately that is probably an important one.
