I just got a Dell Inspiron 3800 and I'm trying to install Visual Studio 6.0. It'll run through most of the setup then at the end I get an Illegal Operation in oleaut32.dll.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Do you have other Micro$oft products open (word, excel etc).
They use oleaut32 heavily.
If so, try closing them down.
You could also try installing product by product (a pain, but you might get an idea as to whats going on).
Also, have you got as far as registering the c++ enviroment variables (i think thats at the end)?

There are numerous versions of ole arround. Maybe you got one which causes the problem. Check the ole version and try
to upgrade it if you find a newer one.

When I install, there's nothing running that I see but I'll check in the background. I downloaded the latest version of dcom98 and installed it fine but VS no difference.
Thanks for help, I'll keep trying different things.
