Install Win2K Issue
my mate has just got a second hand computer and he wants me to install windows 2k on it. everything runs find until it to the second stage, wen the dos bit has finished, it says it cant detect what kinda of computer it is and asks for a hardware support disk, as its 2nd hand, he doesnt have one.is there a way i can get round this? or do we have to find this disk from the person he got the computer from?

It has to say more than that(?). The message seems rather ambiguous.
I built my own computer, and have had no problems.

it cant find what type of computer it is? so it says select from the list, and if it isnt there select other then you have to use this disk, but there is only the other option.
sorry for a dumb question but whats that?

Are you sure it's not just a component it can't find?
I'm thinking that's what it is. Look for what driver it wants.

its happens after u first reboot, when it tells you the DOS Section of the installing bit has been completed. It the inspects the computer hardware configuration. then it says that it doesnt know what type of computer it is. hope thtas helps a little
