Is it just me or has the site been crashing?
Today especially I've been getting a lot of DNS errors and crashes when trying to access the site, is something a miss at your end or mine? Anyone else having trouble?

The last time it happened which I think was on the 24th, I was told that some maintenance was being done. I assume the same thing happened today. I once asked "why do it during the day?" and I was reminded that VBF is a world-wide board so it's always day someplace.

The last time (the 24th) I got a page saying the database was down or some such this time I just get the DNS Error page. Oh well at least I know I'm not going crazy or my connection isn't having a disagreement with the site. Thanks.
Can they post (or did they) when the scheduled maintance times are jsut before they come up so we are warned? Just a little something like a sticky thread or something that says 'The site will be down tomorrow between 10-12'.

Someone forgot to feed the gerbil-cluster, so its went down, with no failover support, because no-one had fed that gerbil-cluster either.

As many of you know, I've been out of the office at the Microsoft conference in LA the last few days. I'm back and I'm going to look into this. If the site is going to be down for more than a reboot, then the network/system admins should be using the 'site offline' feature of vBulletin where a message can be posted. (So you don't get a 404 or other error).

yeah.... that's it.....
Actually, I've been talking with our network/systems guys to track down the problem. It is an issue on the mySQL database that has to do with another site that shares the database server.
There is no actual problem with VBForums
The site is not down, it is that access to the database is, err was, being blocked by the other site. (technical details left out, other than to say that it is actually a mySQL thing.)
If the issue isn't already resolved, then it will be shortly (I didn't get a clear answer on this, but will on Monday). If you don't get right into the forums, try again after about two minutes. Again, the site isn't down, it is related to the number of accesses to the database. Again, this issue will be made to go away if it hasn't already been resolved.
This has been an FYI posting.
(If you get blocked out, feel free to note it on this thread.)
