"Component is not newer .... do you want to keep..."

I have an App written in VB6 SP4 that is installed across all different flavours of OS. The App is packed with PDW.

On the newer OS's, when installing the various OCX's and DLL, the User is prompted that the component being installed is not newer ... do they wish to keep the later version.

In the main, User say YES and the installation proceeds OK.

Is there a way that I can turn off the prompt and automatically keep the newer version of the component? It would make the installation much cleaner to the User.

    Regards
    Adrian

This seems like you may need to take care of some other issues first. You never mentioned what OS it does this on. Do you have the distribution VB6 runtime files in your setup package.

    Thanks for your reply.

The App in question is installed on machines running anything between Win95 and XP. The notification is more on those machines running XP or 2000 with later Service Packs installed.

The fact that there are later versions of common DLL's or OCX's already installed does not bother me or the Application, I would just like to eliminate the pop-up box that prompts the User as to whether they wish to keep their later version.

99.9% of the time they say YES anyway.

    Adrian.

That is exactly my point. This should not happen if you use the correct files. I am not certain on PDW (since I and many other have given that up long ago). I use Inno Setup and the correct files and this never happens.

If you would like to try Inno... Use the link on my signature below to get a utility that can take you from PDW to Inno and help guide you on your way. Or atleast give you a better understanding of what is happening and the file that you should be using.
