We are currently looking for a VB programmer with knowledge of creating DLLs to interact with Microsoft Internet Explorer as a browser helper object. If you have any experience or knowledge of this, please email to [email protected].
This is a short-term contract job.
DO NOT reply to this job unless you do have experience or knowledge of this. Please specify your experience in this area along with your rates.
Basically, we need a DLL to be registered on a computer and for every instance of IE loaded, the DLL will load with it. All incoming html pages are passed through the DLL before being displayed in the browser.
This was originally done in Delphi by two diffrent programmers and worked but each one lacked something like either not working with secure pages or the other one did not work with the browser in AOL which uses IE as well.

ethics debate
I would like to see a debate on this site about the ethics of surreptitiously recording a user's internet activity.
WarrenW would like to create a program that hides itself and watches internet use. So far he has been foiled by MsConfig and AOL.
Is anyone pulling for him? What do people think? Is it ethical to record another's activity of any sort, without alerting the subject to the fact that monitoring is taking place?
What about private detectives? Is the use of a detective ethical?
I suppose I can use WarrenW's aol tybeeware name to see when he is online, when he is idle etc. without his knowledge. Am I justified in doing so?

There are two sides to the coin...
If you want to talk about ethics, then find another news group to do so. This is for visual basic programming - not a debate.
Btw, tell your story to the parents who has children abducted or have unfortunate incidents because they did not listen to their parents about internet rules. Your tune would change if your child was raped by meeting a pedophile offline. I personally know a dozen parents who have had this happened. It is something you do not want to experience. Most people feel it really does not happen or its the child's own fault because they did not listen. But again, it is only a "child" who does not think like we do. So a parent has every right to do this... take any precautions to protect their children as needed. Of course people think it is like reading their mail invading their privacy but if thats what it takes to protect my children, then I will do so.
There are both sides to the story but put yourself in their shoes for once. You know know until you personally experience it.
But everyone has their opinion...

Good points. I wasn't slamming you - the idea of monitoring someone else just made me say 'hmmmmm...'. Then I thought someone else out there in VB world might have an opinion. I'm all for free discourse on the subject. I do believe that the question of 'should we' belongs here as much as 'can we'.

No problem...
No problem... I get emails similar but more harsh from my web site.
But I never say anyone is wrong with their opinion... I guess I like to point out my reasons for such a software program so people do not think of me so much as a spy but more of a protector.
