I think you would find they would hang onto the domain name, or at least sell it - as it would be worth a considerable amount of money.
Plus, the domain name is part of the vbworld network, which is now part of JM, so that would add more complication to the matter.

If you did somehow end up with the domain, I think you'd find you would be running out of money paying for bandwidth very fast

This thread is so sodding pointless! Jupitermedia are providing a vaulable service to us for free, along with the countless other sites they provide which I use on a daily basis, and they advertise to protect their income a little bit.

*** is the problem? If the adverts irritate you that much, leave! Hell, if you believe you are so right, I'm sure if you go and set up another forum, the entire VBF user base will flock to you. Whats that you say? Only five people have signed up? Perhaps thats because most of us are prepared to put up with a few ads in return for a free and extremely useful VB resource.

Face it kiddies, the ads are here to stay. if you don't like it, sod off and moan to someone who cares.

    /me out.

CyberSurfer, you do know that by contributing to this thread, you are helping to insure that this, and other threads like it, will continue on? By giving fuel to the 'anti-threaders', you're just allowing them to continue.

The best option would be to not respond at all. Then, unless they talk to themselves, they would have nothing to reply to.

    You dig?

Sure, they provide the equipment to run it, but they do not provide the content, WE do that. If we all left, this site would be worth nothing. So, they are selling our content, and us users when they sell advertising space. It is in their best interest to make it so as to please the content providers (us) and the advertisers at the same time. It is to bad that they don't see the community as the valuable source. They see the forums as the valuable source, but forget without the users, the forums wouldn't exist.

hellswraith makes a point also as this site, and others like it, are made by their members and contributors.

Na.This forum isn't extremely busy, I know that if I couldn't host it, I could hook them up with a much btter deal.

If somehow I did get domain, I'd find the way.

Hell I currently have some space from a hosting company FOR FREE that is about 200GB of bandwidth just for hosting large files.

    I know people

If everyone is so unhappy why don't you all move? There are many alternatives to this place, although I don't see the need to move. I'm a member at many sites:

    VBForums
    VBCity
    HotVBForums
    DeveloperKB
    DevShed
    GalahTech

    etc...
    etc...
    etc...

Each site has it's own thing that makes it unique and it benefits me to be a member to all. If you feel like VBForums is causing you too much grief, don't cause the rest that are staying and using this place grief too. Move or just don't use VBForums as much but don't complain about something that won't stop. Laters, Jeremy

Then why don't you go start a forum?

You're like a little kid. The admins say there's high traffic, you say there's not, the admins say there's high traffic, you say there's not, etc.

You argue like a child. Do you have statistical information about bandwidth and visits to this site? Back up your claim.

And how do you know that you can get them a better deal? Have you talked to their accounting department? Have you checked to see how much they shell out for THIS SITE ALONE?

And go read my response to the other thread where you're rambling on about this. They're a business. They employ people and try to make a profit.

    That's why they have ads.

Members of the administration have already stated that the ads on these forums are not pay-by-click but pay-by-display.

but still althought JM will still make money the advertisers wont and may decide to stop advertiseing here then where would the money be comming from?

    Man...
    www.genmay.com

They are the 3rd largest VBull forum on the internet. They average a 900GB a month transfer and probably spend maybe $2-300 a month for 2 dedicated servers (1 for database, 1 for images)

They have probably 10 new posts every 5 seconds, they have over 4 million posts and they have been around for only about a year. This site generates NO WHERE near that. That is why I estimated a max of 100GB of bandwidth this forum would use (though I am probably wrong, I suck at ballpark figures)

This forum does no where near that. The admin's high bandwidth idea must be alot less than that, and they need to give accurate figures. If this forum does 100GB a month, hopefully they're paying ALOT lower than genmay (for 100GB of transfer, maybe $17 a month(I was quoted by a hosting company I know and trust, very reliable))

And I already started my own forum, however my website is not complete and I haven't finished the skin FOR the forum, so it sits as is in the default IPB skin ( www.binaryidiot.com/forum )

Great, you have the statistical information for another site. I asked you about this site.

    Try again?

Do I have statisical information about this site? No I asked for it. Without the information, I have to play stupid guessing games.

    Try again?

I have not tried, therefor I cannot try again.

Posting BS and propaganda in some threads...what's the point? If you think you can help JupiterMedia, send an admin an email.

I don't see what you're trying to accomplish in Chit Chat?

Well it's obvious JM wouldn't want my help anyway and they obviously don't care about their forums.

The only thing I am accomplishing in Chit Chat is exactly that, Chit Chat. I'm bored and felt like arguing about a crappy company

Jupitermedia probably has an accounting and IT department that has their hosting needs well taken care of. It's probably not a matter of not wanting your help, but a matter of not needing it.

And I'm sure Brad would have something to say about them not caring about the forums. He works pretty hard around here, and he's a representative/employee of JM.

I love how they made this a non-issue by ushering it over to chitchat...

You know it's kinda like throwing something out into the yard. Sooner or later the grass is gonna grow over it, it will deteriorate... but if you keep it in the house it'll be fine =P

    Funny that
All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.

If it where smaller, I would have no problem, but this one is huge. It takes the layout out of it's layout as is my opinion.
