    [Resolved] CPU Installation Problem

I'm trying to install a CPU on my motherboard. I lifted up the lever and slid the CPU into place, but the lever goes halfway down before it gets stuck and wont go down anymore.

Is this common? I don't want to put to much force on it and bend or break all the pins...because that would suck greatly.

Did you put it in correct? Make sure there are no bent pins as well.

With my Athlon XP, there was a little triangle near a corner which corresponded with a triangle on the mobo and it went in matching them up.

yeah, it's aligned perfectly with the one pin and all. And it slides into the slot all the way, so I don't think any pins are broken. I just can't get the lever to go all the way down.

And I don't want to force it, either.

With mine I had to apply some pressure, but not alot. You may not be applying enough beause you think it'll break.

That was how I was but it worked out. If you have the receipt you could always take it back saying it was DOA if you **** it up.

I think if I smash all the pins, they might get suspicious.

If all of the pins go into each hole (like I assumed they did since you said it was lined up) then they won't get smashed unless there is some wierd defect in the mobo that has less than half the lenght for the pins in the cpu slot....

Try if the computer works with the lever only half-way (just put the power on and see if the bios-screen show up) if that is the case, you just can use more pressure, it won't break that easily....

    I wouldn't recommend that.

If the CPU is in the slot, you'll know because it's gone all the way down. Just whack that lever down

*takes a deep breath and pushes it down*

I guess I'm just too gentle. Thanks for the assurance and such, fellas.
