    [Resolved] XP: Force User Logon?

I want to force users to have to login at the prompt on my computer. Currently, if you just press "Okay" without enterting in a username and password, it'll let you pass.

I don't want this to happen. Is there anything I can do?

That sounds like a major security hole

Try changing to classic (windows 2000-like) logins maybe? Myself I never liked the XP login screen, other people even less, and you'll probably find that you won't be able to get in that way with the old-style login prompt.

I think I am using that already. In Control Panel > User Accounts, I have the "Use Welcome Screen" unchecked. Is that what you mean?

When, at the login prompt, I hit OK, it goes to a user account called "Administrator". However, in User Accounts, I don't see that account there. I thought if I put a password on it, it'd fix the problem.

    Any ideas?

Create some user accounts , or keep current ones, then assign passwords for them . BTW , you might need to disable 'Guest' account if it's not already disabled . This will prevent intruders to log in .

I already have user accounts created, all with passwords. The Guest account is already disabled.

I have "Use the Welcome Screen" unchecked (and the bottom is grayed-out/uncheckable).

Are you saying I should use the welcome screen?

Also, I found on tweakXP, that you can make your own program to log you in/out and replace XPs with it...but...I was hoping there was some option somewhere I could toggle.

I just went and got on to the "Administrator" account by pressing OK and leaving everything black. From there, I went to User Accounts, and Administrator was in there. It seems to only be in there while you're on that name.

So I put a password on it, logged out, and now pressing OK will not let the user bypass.

I'm guessing it's something I did in setup that caused this account to be created, but now it seems to be working like I want it to.

    Thanks for the help, lads.

I don't like how it's mandatory to create a superuser in XP... In all the previous I just logged in as Administrator because it's not like you're not going to get exploited if you're on an underpriviledged user

the 'Administrator' account is created no matter what (and cant be deleted)
when xp is installing it asks u to enter a password for it, but u can just leave it blank, click next, and never know the difference

Nothing really wrong with it. I just like the classic style better.

The problem with the welcome screen is that we're not in elementary school.

The XP welcome screen makes me want to crack open the acrylics and fingerpaint the monitor

I'd rather have boring over juvenile.

My problem was already resolved. And that link seems to do the exact opposite of what I want to do.
