I've just had an insurance quote for the 316Ti Sport with BMW direct... only £2577!

I'm very happy now! That's a stonkin' price, which has toppled it for me! If the car drives as well as every says, it'll be mine soon!

Not as quick as the Astra GSi, but so much more refined and classy! :drooooooool:

the compact versions are crap, no one wants them after a year so seelling it on will be impossible. the 1.6 is also the worst engine make for the 3 series. if u want a 1.6 bmw get a new mini cooper

hi its me again and i have to say that the beaver is right!

i own a 3 series (an old one) and they are great to drive. i'm also a member of the owners club so i get to test drive a few new ones. the compact is ok but is slow for the money. new mini a better option. the compact has horrid lights too. and by the way it is a girls car (the compact is the girlieest bmw nex to the z3 1.8)

    They don't do a 1.6 version!?!?!

I don't know how anyone can say it looks like a girls car? It's still in one piece for a start!

I'll be getting the pokey 150BHP Ti Sport version anywayz... so it'll have more grunt than the standard version.

For the money, it's a bargain!

I've just tried elephant.co.uk, and they quoted £3000 fully comp/no NCD, 2yrs license. Not bad, but not the best i've had!

I agree about the Z3 though... I wouldn't have one of those! Now that's a girls car!

Everyone says it's a hoot to drive, with near perfect 50:50 weight distribution, and a great rear-wheel drive system... it should be far better than the Astra GSi Turbo & Honda Civic Type-R i was originally looking at!

Not as quick, i admit... for speed isn't everything! *Now where's that Garret turbo mag*

I agree with the MINI comment, but idiot drivers is not specifically a term used only for BMW drivers!

    Women drivers for instance...

I'll be test driving the BMW 316Ti SE on Saturday, so i'll get a good idea of what it's like. I'll be buying the 316Ti Sport though, cause 316Ti SE 112BHP is far from perky enough for me!

Those Mini Cooper S's are dead quick though! My Quiksilver keeps up with it for a while, before the supercharger kicks in, then it wastes it!

It will be a nice car. but i would still chose the astra for outright funfactor.

hang on a sec though u mean to say that the 1.8 standard only produces 112 bhp and weighs 1.4 tonnes (well 1375kg kerb weight) that sucks ass!! the sport weights 1.3 tonnes (1275kg) and puts out exactly 142bhp (which still isn't great) and they do definatly do a 1.6.

The astra is still better and with suspension tuned by lotus it will probably handle better than the bmw. (and thats probably true) listen to this advise. choose what u want but the bmw will make u bored.

oh yeah peteD i agree with u there the M roadster (looks like z3) is a wicked car even though they are only realy driven by women.

I don't know where you're getting the 1.6 info from, but I can assure you it's not available in the UK! Take a look at BMW.co.uk

The 316Ti Sport is NOT 150BHP as I originally thought, it's 115. I'm starting to go off this now! Damn u!

It's not a patch on the Vauxhall Astra GSi Turbo in terms of speed, but if it's only 115BHP, it'll be dead slow in comparison to my Quiksilver.

Thank you for all the comments, and i'll certainly look again before making a decision.

BMW: Quality, cheap to insure, looks superb, but slow for the money...
Vauxhall: Not as good quality, £3850 to insure, looks (again) superb, but goes like stink!!!! 200BHP from a 2.0i ECOTEK...

I've just returned from my test drive, and it's beyond words!

It's far from slow, and it's incredibly smooth to drive. I've managed to knock £1000 off the total too!

I think i'll be going for the 316Ti SE after all. It's still got all the mod-cons' and drives like a dream. It not as quick as the astra, but it still does the job perfectly well.

Thank you for all the comments, I think i've finally made a decision!

    Cheers...

    I've ordered the BMW 318Ti Sport 2.0i 150BHP version!

I've driven several other cars, with varied results.

    Peugeot 206GTi180: 2Litre 180BHP VVT
Dead quick, looks nice from the outside, but the interior lets it down, and the drive is very uncomfortable. No space for drivers... let alone anyone else!!! Nice car, but only if you like the drive of a bus!

    Honda Civic Type-R: 2Litre 197BHP iVTEC
Quick, beyond belief! Looks wierd from the outside, and the insides not much better! Nice gear shift, but obviously built with one thing in mind... OUTRAGEOUS SPEEEEEED! Vroooooom!

Vauxhall Astra GSi Turbo: 2Litre 197BHP ECOTEK TURBO
Superb, in every way! As quick (if not quicker) than the Honda and the Peugeot, and looks far better. Handling is superb, but it was tuned by Lotus... so what do you expect! ) Really a drivers car, which is a hoot to drive! Built for speed, but also has nice refinements which make it appealing to everyone!

    BMW 316Ti SE: 1.8Litre 115BHP 16v
Beautiful car, but a little sluggish. Loaded with fancy extra's and looks better than anything else! But the common, most widely talked about fault... the speed (or lack of!) It pulls nicely until 4500RPM, before drifting gently to 80MPH.

    BMW 318Ti Sport: 2Litre 143BHP 16v
Again, beautiful car, and far from sluggish! Loaded with even more extras and has a sleek bodykit, which really does make it look better (but it's still not a boy-racer style). Pulls all the way to the redline, but only hits 0-62 in 9 seconds, where as the Honda makes it in 6, the Pug in 7.4 and the Astra in 7! So not the quickest motor in the list, but far and away the best option.

Nothing quite prepares you for the driving experience a BMW gives you! Unreal!!!

I've managed to get a great deal from the dealers too! Haggle, haggle... and haggle some more! The dealer will never refuse to sell you the car. Try haggling the insurance too, it worked for me!

Thanx peeps for all the help, and i'm positive i've made the right decision! * Vision looks for the Garret turbo book and NOS kits!!! *

What colour did u order. Black, gunmetal and sliver are byfar the best colours for BMW's oh and BMW racing metallic blue but that is an expense.

i'll have to find a pic of my beamer. so u can have a look at it. BMW's make the best drivers cars by far. and if you are lucky enough to pick up an 2.5ltr E30 with Msport struts for around £1500 (hehe) u will be laughing!

I'm having the Grey Silver version. The titanium silver looks a little cheap on this car... so the darker grey silver was my choice! (the picture at the top is the same colour...)

It was a choice between silver & mystic blue, but the blue is too dark.

Anyone know of any super/turbo chargers that'll fit the 318Ti Sport? It's quick, dont get me wrong, but still not quite as quick as i'de like! I'm not a speed freak or anything.... but I do like a fair amount of poke when its necessary. Overtaking in my Peugeot is a hoot, but scary when it doesn't go as quick as you'de think!!!

I've tried typing the usual junk into google, but it refuses to show me what i'm asking for!

    Anyone any idea's?
