    Java Applets...

I am working on a game project for a friend. He has a card game that was written in C++ that accepts TCP Connections and plays cards on screen... My job is to convert this App into something that is not platform dependent and that all they have to do is go to the website and its there for them to play... To me this screems Java Applets but maybe there is something better out there.. suggestions is what I am after here...

The program must accept logins for up to 4 people, it must track their status in the game, it must log their scores in a database... and in some point in the future I must handle account billing... but that can be done completely outside the applet for now....

    Thanks in Advance!!

If it is to be an applet, you need a server that handles the connections, an applet may not accept incoming connections.

So I would need to write a servlet that the clients applets would communicate with? So basically in your opinion is this the technology to use? Basically I am trying to establish the best language to write this app in..

I see no other way to do what you want than Java Applets, and therefore you need a server app (not a servlet, but a real Java App running on the server).

Thank you very much CornedBee. I was pretty sure Java is what I was going to use, but I would hate to get far into a project and realize it could of been done better in another language better or more efficiently or that the language I am using can't do it at all...

You can write the server in any language that can listen to ports. I just think Java would be a good choice here.
