    Parabolas

Any of you have examples of everyday actions that when recorded graphically, would produce a parabola.

LIke a ball being thrown at a spacific trajectory.

    Weather.

Although I'd say it's more of a sine wave.

when throwing anything that floats down into the water it'll "pop" up again with that kind of motion.

    Wouldn't that be elliptical?

Actually there are various types of orbit - the two main ones are elliptical and parabolic.

But if it's a parabola, then it's more of a flyby than an orbit isn't it? I mean I figured an orbit involves at least one full revolution.

I suppose segments of an elliptical orbit could be defined in terms of parabolas.
