Javascript not working with Netscape 4.7 *found alternative solution*
I'm trying to write a javascript that will alter the width of a textbox that works in Netscape 4.7.
Example that works in IE and NS7...
document.formname.txtbox.size = length
Any help appreciated.
*UPDATE*
Decided to use different size images instead. With just Javascript to swap the images at every time interval.

netscape 4.7 is really old.
You could better advice them to use a newer browser. Mozilla or so.(also small for old computer)

Thats not really an option. A large percentage of Internet users are still using Netscape 4.7 and although I agree it is a terrible piece of software we develop to a minimum browser version of 4.7 for Netscape and 4 for IE.
I don't mean this personally but people who say "just develop for newer browsers" ain't really helping the problem at hand. If I had that choice do you think I would be posting a problem? Sorry like I said I didn't mean it personally but I get that answer a lot.

I used to get that answer too.
When the company I worked for was making their site's for netscape 4.01. and higher..
but today there are good browsers which are smaller then netscape.( most used point). and netscape4.7 misses a lot..
that's why...
but keeping you site's compatible with netscape 4.7 is a good thing. I'm try-ing to do the same.. but not the looks..only making sure it works. (once we've been working on a very complex table-structure for 3 day to get everything right in ALL browser. )

The fact that Netscape 4.7 doesn't conform with many of the web standards can be a real pain in the arse!
Generally speaking we do the same just get the site to work in NS4.7 and the look of the site as good as possible without having to completely redesign. We've found using layers works well as you can assign a different style sheet for each browser and therefore position layers differently for each. Also using layers addresses w3c WAI issues.

I just need to add and apart from I don't blame anybody if they have to, but NS4.7 is only like 2% of the net. it has dropped considerably in the last year and more even since AOL dropped Netscape development. even NS7 is way down there. 2% is not worth the agony to develop for.
I don't mean to be rude or anything but it is people like you that won't let it die. we as webmasters want the best in our sites and if you code for a old browser then you are not getting that chance are you? if we want the old brwoser to go away we have to stop coding for them.

Excuse me but developing for Netscape 4.7 doesn't stop it from dying as all other browsers ignore the Netscape 4.7 code the way we develop. If people still have Netscape 4.7 they are so in the past they probably don't even know how to update.
Secondly I agree that developing for Netscape 4.7 can be more trouble than its worth but as this is my companies position at this time I have to go along with it. I'll be as happy as anyone when the decision to drop it is made.
As for not getting the chance to use all the additional functions provided by the newer browsers this is rubbish as we simply use these and Netscape generally ignores them.
I certainly don't think that putting a line of text on a site "Best viewed in Internet Explorer 6 so screw the rest of you" is the way to go.
Sorry if I've been abrupt but in alot of cases sites developed to cater for many browsers (including outdated ones) are done so as a company decision and to ensure the maximum audience is reached. If you don't want to do that then fine - lucky you!
Rant over - phpman - lets agree to disagree.

yes, I already said if you don't have a choice then what can you do. I know a few companies that still develope for NS.
I didn't mean to blame you as a person (webmaster) but your company as a whole
