Cool Car stupidities! What's the closest you've ever come to an accident?

    Hi all.

We all do stupid things in our cars, but how many admit it?

It's a good job it's mostly men in this forum, cause the women could fill it with all there stupidities!

Over 50% of car accidents turn out to be men at the wheel, but what they don't tell you, is that they were trying to miss a women driver doing 20MPH with the handbrake on!

Anyone else care to share there close call's?

I tried to overtake a learner doing 30 in a 40mph zone with no other car for miles. Well with a 1 litre corsa it just had no umph and suddenly another car comes along.

Lets just say i wasnt very happy with my car after that (Still got it) and i don overtake anyone anymore.

I also did the turning right at roundabout but some how ended up in left when i had pulled out, thank god nobody was in left lane i would have taken their bonnet off

I think generally it has to do with the power of my car so i end up not getting acceleration sometimes.

Oh and i almost hit a **** in the rear going round a roundabout he decided to pull out when he shouldnt in his crappy overdone little old car and try to overtake a van before leaving the roundabout. He was probably saved by a **** in a four by four ahead who decided they were in the wrong lane so carried on past the junction and blocking three vehicles from exiting. I am surprised there wasnt any accidents.

Get 2 twats and they seem to save one another

Oh and a fu**ed up lorry driver decided to drive too close i turned left into my road and he beeped me flashed his lights because i slowed down from forty to turn a sharp left. I swear if i was a police officer i would have him banned from the roads!!!!

Just thinking about it you forgot to add lorry drivers to the pole.

My sisters friend bought a nice neat fiesta a few weeks back and went down a duel carriage way. While overtaking a lorry at about 60 the lorry driver decided to pull out and shunt her into the central reservation. What pisses me off more is the driver didnt even stop to see if she was ok!!!!!

Lorry drivers overtaking other lorries really annoys me becuase they go at 60 and take miles to overtake blocking the road for all others

I would have to disagree with you. ok the incident with your friend wasn't good, but the majority of all accidents between lorries and cars is normally always caused by the car, with the most comon one being that cars always dive in front of a lorry which is effectively it's breaking zone, and wonder why they get back ended by a 40 tonne truck when they have to break heavily

and contrary to popular belief, you don't own the road. The speed limit is only 10 mph more than what artics are limited too, and they have as much right as anybody to over take slow moving vehicles

But lorry drivers always seem to compete with one another and take miles to overtake.

The amount of times i have seen a lorry try to overtake and have to fall back after 5 mins of trying is unbelievable. I agree i dont own the road i never said or implied that i did i just said it annoys me

Lorrys make me nervous because they pull out on roundabouts when the shouldnt and talegate like nobodys buisness.

Another thing that makes me nervous are motorbikes

they just should not be on the road. Period.

I used to race bikes, and once while racing supersport 400's at Brands Hatch I came into contact with another bike on Graham Hill bend. I somehow stayed upright, and furious about the fact that the guy who hit me had managed to get passed me, I tore off after him down the cooper straight. After leaving my braking very late for Surtees, went for the front brake at about 130 mph, only to realise that the brake lever had been ripped off by the coming together at the previous corner!! Never shat myself more in all my life! But lived to tell the tale!

Most of my incidents have been because of some dingus using their friggin phone and not paying attn to the red light, or the stop sign, or the fact that there is a stopped vehicle right in front of them....

Here's one for you (Absolutely true story that happened on Dec. 12, 1999)

I had just finished taking my college finals and my birthday was a couple of days before, so me and all my friends decided to meet up at a local nightclub. At about 11pm that night I stopped drinking (I had already had 1 DUI 6 years earlier, and learned my lesson with drinking and driving).
Well, the bar closes down, and although I feel somewhat buzzed, I am perfectly capable of driving. So, I get im my car and head home. During my drive home I get stuck behind the slowest driver in the world, this person was literally doing 10mph in a 35mph zone. Som I'm thinking "this idiot is drunk, I'll just go around him". So I start to pass him, as we start to head down a hill. I looked ahead and didn't see any cars comming an pulled out to start my pass. Well there just so happen to be a dip in the road. A dip so deep that I didn't see the car until I was ebout evenly next to the car I was passing. So it was either slam on the brakes and slide back behind the car I was trying to pass, or slam on the gas and speed by the car I was passing. So I floored the accelerator (hitting about 60 mph. I was driving a Mazda RX-7). Keep in mind this is about 2:00 am. So anyway I pass the car, swerve back into my lane narrowly missing this other car, as I'm reaching 70 mph in a 30 mph zone. Only to find out that the car I narrowly missed a head on collision with at 70 mph was a ****ing cop car!

He flips on his lights. I drive to the bottom of the hill and pull into a convenience store parking lot and wait for him (I learned my lesson about trying to out run cops, but that's another story). Anyway, he pulls in behind me, we go through the bs ("do you know why I stopped you?) he ends up giving me a field sobriety test. Which I pass without any problems. Then he decides he is going to run my license. Well, a couple of months earlier a friend of mine had just bought a new BMW, and we were out one night and got pulled over while for it not being legally licensed (He was still driving on the expired temporary license plate tag). I was sriving his car, because he was drinking. So anyway we get stopped and I get the ticket! So my friend says don't worry about it I'll pay it. Well, I thought he had paid it! So when the cop runs my license, he finds out that I have a warrant for my arrest for not paying this ticket. So he arrests me and takes me to the police station. Well, once we are at the police station the cop decides he wants to give me a breathalyzer test to see if I am over the legal limit. At that time the legal limit was .10 to be considered drunk. I get up to the machine and blow, and it reads .11 I blew 1/10th over the legal limit. So what could have been just a stupid $100 speeding ticket ended up costing me a couple of thousand dollars, all because my friend didn't pay the ticket he said he was going to pay for me.

It cost me $500 for an attorney, $125 for court costs, 80 hours of community service, 48 hour in-patient substance abuse clinic, plus I was placed on probabtion for 3 years (which costs $20/month).

And the funny thing of all, is I rarely drink. Usually, just on special occasions.

Well, I have never had a wreck, but have had many close calls. Most recently when I was coiming home from college, I was travlleing on a hgihway. There is another highway that intersects the one I was on, and that intersection is well known for getting people killed. I was behind two cars, and the driver in the first car suddenly slams on his brakes, apparently thinking there is a stop sign at the intersection even though there isnt, and never has been. The car behind him slams on his brakes too, but his brake lights dont work, so I dont notice it till I start coming up on him REAL fast. I slam on my brakes too, but I realize I'm not gonna make it, so I check the other lane for traffic and swerve into it. By the time I finally stop, I would have been in the second car's front seat if I didnt swerve.

Where I live, we got a lot of ice last winter, so that made for a couple of close calls too, mostly because of idiots thinking they could go 50 mph on ice.

BTW, I'm porbably just stupid, but what is a Lorry?

My closest call with the police was a few weeks ago. I have a Peugeot 106 Quiksilver, and the gas pedal is very prone to sticking and over-revving without needing to.

I was coming up to an island and the bloody pedal jammed... which meant i flew around the island at 55MPH. The only car on the damn road at that time of night........ was a cop car!

He didn't flash or switch on that damn awful siren, but he turned at the island and followed me. My Peugeot left it for dust, and I turned down a VERY narrow side-road and just missed a fixed bin. Lights off, music down.... and waited! A few minutes later... i pulled from the side-road and drove home! Heard nothing since!

I know it's nothing in comparison to others... but it really shook me! I've never been followed like that before! Stupid little Ford Focus's.... it didn't stand a chance!

    ----

A friend of mine has a 106GTi highly modded, and looks fantastic! He get's pulled over by the police in stafford all the time! ALL... and I mean ALL the police know him and his car, so they stop him to ask what new mods he's had! He was in Max Power a few weeks ago... he has one sweet-ass Peugeot. 19" alloys, slammed 75, and 150 Nos'd! Drooooooool

I hate it when people drive in the fast lane at 50mph when there is a clear lane beside them just because they are turning right at the roundabout 20 miles away.

i hate even more the people that undertake you at 100mhp!!!! just because they can get past the car your overtaking quicker than you can.

Quite simply i want to join the traffic department of the police to stop idiots like the ones we are discussing. It really really really does annoy me!!!!

This has JUST happened to me... litterally a few minutes ago!

I've just filled up down at my local Safeway branch, and when I pulled away, a women (strange... I know!) cut me up! She nudges the front end of my car, and smiles sweetly as she zooms off. I floored it, and flew right up her arse and screeched to a halt! All the time having the horn firmly depressed of course!

    Everything was caught on CCTV!

Dumb blind *****! Right nasty scratch too!

Now I know I joked about it earlier in my post... but this women had actually got the handbrake on!

If she happens to be a member of this forum (and I so hope she is!), i'll be reporting you!

Ahhh... rant over! So... how's everyone 2nite?

The problem around here is all the old farts putting around in their cadillacs. They just pull out when they feel like it. They're completely oblivious to all road signs probably because they can't read them. Yield always means stop for at least 30 seconds while they try to remember where they're going. They're a menace in any parking lot and you've basically got to assume they don't see you.

I don't care if they've been driving for 65 years and have never had a ticket. After 70 everyone should have to pass a road-test every 2 years.

    Grrrrr

People driving at 90MPH have NO respect for other drivers and beleive they own the road. Remember you may not make the mistake but you can easily be killed at 90MPH. And if you do make a mistake you can kill an innocent driver and their family. Cars are very powerful and potentially very destructive. Thats why speed limits exist!!!!!

People who go at 90MPH have a tendancy to tailgate. i dont mind you doing 90mph just dont get impatient with people doing the speed limit and DONT TAILGATE!!!!!!

VisionIT just be glad its not your new car!!! Oh and i would report her especially seems she didnt stop to sort out the matter!!!!

On the roads you should not be going fast enough to get into a 360 spin on ice!!!!

They shouldn't stop people for doing 90, but in fact stop people for doing 40 in a 60 limit as that is WAY more dangerous!!! ****ERS!
Only as dangerous as the ****** behind.
I agree its annoying but i am not the idiot who tries to overtake them no matter whats coming the other way. You doint own the roads and should respect other drivers!!!!

I passed the test first time!!! No fear of a ban under your leadership

Mobile phones are dangerous beyond a doubt i have seen on regular occasions people doing 60 and changing gear with there free hand while talking on the phone with the other!!! One of them hits me and i will cream there face!!!!

Boy racers have a tendancy to beleive they are invincible and that they have more power in their car than they actually have putting them in the most stupid and dangerous situations.

I saw one of these boy racers driving through ASDA the other day at about 30MPH (This is the car park full of padestrians) just to look cool for the mates with him. How good would he look if he hit somebody.

i do a large amount of motorway miles a day to get to and from work. and yes the most annoying thing is people sitting in the middle lane of the motorway when there is no one in the slow lane. GET OVER A LANE U ****ERS!! Just because it is called the slow lane doesn't make you less of a man to be driving in it!!!

Its not actually seen as a slow lane it the main lane if no other cars are present.

Middle lane is for overtaking slow lane and inside lane is for overtaking middle lane. No lane is designed for speed just overtaking

Well you are a very good little boy then have a lolly pop

Doing 30 mph all the way up a motorway slip road is a confidence problem. if its a recent thing suggest she gets her eyes tested because this is the main (often un-noticed) problem with driving confidence.

It is extremely dangrous to go onto a road at 30 mph when all other traffic is travelling at 70 why do you think they ban mopeds, milk floats and double deckers from motorways

My cars max speed is 97mph it would barely make a 90mph speed limit

I have been in the right lane before and seen the left lane clear(Slow) and pulled in to find a large tractor thing travelling at 20mph now that is seriously dangerous because it was in a blind spot and trying to pull out from behind it was a nightmare. It is a big mistake to try and pull into a 70mpg lane from 20mph and dangerous beyond belief. some nice person let me out so it was ok but that vehicel doing twenty could easily cause an accident and should have had a police escort
