I would go for Win2K Pro, but that is just beacuse my PC is so stabile (SP?) with it. And I don't like XP. But I guess most persons here will say XP.

Also.....maybe you should get some DDR RAM...you'll see a decent speed boost.

XP Pro or 2000 Pro would be fine. I prefer XP Pro myself. Just dont use 98. Besides Microsoft stopped driver database for it, there tring to push users toward the newer OS's, which I thick is stupid. It's our choice what to use.

Still, you can't support things forever. If someone wanted Windows 3.1 drivers for something all of a sudden...now thats just not reasonable.

Besides, pretty much all consumer stuff still runs on 98. Occasionally Windows ME decides to work too.

It's not a mix. ME is the upgrade from 98. That is the upgrade from 95. Win2K is the NT shell, and 9X futures.....

Since you want to play games, do multimedia stuff you can go for 98 SE or XP Pro but you also want to do development so u should do for Windows 2000 Pro but then can't use for games.

Since XP Pro is better than 98 SE in multimedia handling so I would say.

    XP Pro.

    XP Pro.
Win2K with SP4 will play more or less any game.

Heck it played 90% of games in the RTM. Ever since SP1 I've never had any problems with games on 2k Pro except NBA Live games and really old ones....

And why can't you do development on XP Pro? Nothing stopping you. Its just as viable of a development platform as 2K is.

Well, no. But it is closer to 98. ME should have never been released, it sucks.

ME is the upgrade of Win98 , W2k is the upgrade of NT . W3k is the upgrade of XP . First one sucks as all said , then things became better and better .

NT wasn't THAT bad. Just rather limited.

And 98SE is superior to ME.

W3k huh? We're gonna be waiting a while then....

Yes, that would be the logical assumption, but I've never heard of it being called W3k.

The K is for "kilo" meaning 1000. So it sounds weird if it is W3k...that would be trancelated to Windows 3000........but maybe, maybe not...
