    Visual basic.net runtimes?

i found the .net framework runtimes, but thats 23 megs - a hefty price for 56kers and dsl users to pay.. is there a smaller version for just vb.net apps?

Those runtimes are required to run any VB .NET program.

No way to get around it (well someone was developing a native VB .NET compiler, dunno what happened with that though...)

Just don't include it and tell them to download the .NET frameowrk if they don't have it (the newest PCs with Windows XP should have the framework installed already)

Yes that's true, certainly XP Professional has the Framework issued with it. There are also deployment iussues (just getting into them), if you develop usingFramework 1.1 (thats VS 2003)then from what I've read even if the target machine has Framework 1.0 it still requires Framework 1.1, don't take this as gospel, just trying to address those issues now. However Framework can be ordered on CD if you can download it and then cut it to CD.
The other potential issues as far as I know are DMAC 2.6 or higher is reqired and Crystal reports seems to have caused some problems in deployment.
Wish me luck my first target machine is a bare windows 98 machine, so anyone who sees this and has advice to offer your comments and advice are very welcone

VS.NET 2003 projs (which run 1.1 Framwork) can still support 1.0 but it will ask for 1.1 if didn't find specific feature in 1.0 .

    Off Topic I know

Pirate my I ask, why don't you just buy an MSDN subscription and have done with it. I develop using Microsfoft tools and yes I do pay my subscription annually for MSDN but I also expect my customers to pay me, so why should I expect to get my software tools for free.

    Just curious

No independent software developer not even Microsoft Certified, just gave up a few years ago trying to crack software codes and decided ligite was best, yes it's the guts of $3000 a year to fully subscribe but felt it was worth it aslo went legit on the macromedia products which we use as well, although not yet Cyrstal Reports as what we get in Visual Studio doesn't warrant it. Guess just got fed up of trying to crack our way through software and a little concerned on the distribuion of our products about flouting Software licencsing, guess it makes no odds if what you develop you never sell on
Oh yes and finally made damn sure that no-one could operate our own ocde without proper registration, that was the final straw, if we were going to insist on our own customers abiding by the rules then we should ourselves.

There is good , and bad . There is bitter and sweet. There are viruses and Norton . There are hackers and anit-hackers . Life will never continue without these contrasts . Accept it if you would like or reject it . It's life law.

I think the point Pierate is, you seem like you are proud that you are stealing MS' software. Quite frankly I think you need to shut up about it. If you want to steal the software, that is up to you, but stop bragging about it in your posts and now your sig.

And someone who has not payed a single cent for VS.NET certainly has no right to complain about them releasing new version.

First , yes , I'm really proud . I used to this since my early ages and I'll keep doing this till I get old or they protect their products that can be impossible to crack .
Second , my signature belongs to me , it's not business of anyone here . I write what I'd like to write .
Third , MS has their own lawyers and their own court . So you should shut up dude .

What applies to software , applies to songs and movies , and what's happening with kaza and eMule. Do you want to tell me that you'd never downloaded any of these to get what you want for free ? I'm sure , you wouldn't say yes .
