This is something we said we'd do when the CodeBank got big enough. Now if people will only post in the right subforum...

The Main Page isn't going to stay like that tho is it?? It seems a bit messy if you know what I mean. It would look better with just one link to the codebank then the sub sections once the codebank is opened, instead of the sub sections being shown on the main page as well. You know what I mean?

Yea thats what I mean, I hadn't realised you'd changed world events to that cos it used to be like how the codebank is now didn't it. Don't you reckon it'd look better like that tho?

Take a look at CodeBank now and see what you think.
My apologies for the temporary chaos - I should have posted a "warning" message that changes were impending. I thought it was going to be a two minute thing, but it turned into a 90 minute thing.

While I'm posting....
Let me summarize the changes that have been made. These are based on the comments and feedback of the moderators and others:
- We built subforums. This was the primary change that will allow different topics to be easier to sift through. If the "Other" category gets a lot of code samples from a specific language (such as Java), then we will create additional subforums and move message.
- I changed the "default view" to 1500 days. Previously it was 30 days. This will allow you to see everything in the CodeBank from the last four years. Or, from a different perspective, everything posted for the next 3-1/2 years will be in the default view (since the bank is about 6 months old.
- I turned the primary CodeBank forum into just a category. Some of you saw this before the messages were moved out. Now it is a nice light blue area with the different categories within it.
- I added a "Before you submit" type message at the top of each forum. These all point back to Martin's primary message so that only one message needs to be maintained.
- That is pretty much it.
The idea was to provide a little bit more organization to the CodeBank.

do we even need them? We have an insane amount of forums now. I always liked this place because we had so few...whenever I go to a new forum its kind of overwhelming seeing like 20 forums to chose from

That is part of the reason why the CodeBank is a separate section. If you are not interested in the coding examples, you can ignore the section and its forums.
In the mean time, if you -- or others -- are interested in finding a specific code example, it will be easier to drop into the section that has the code you are interested in. The single forum was getting too full to make it easy to find different topics (it was overwelling to try to find something).
In summary, I believe additional forums are good when they make the organization better. I'll also believe in adding a forum if it fits the overall site and there are enough people showing that they will support it.
In my opinion, I don't mind 20 forums to choose from if they are all busy. If most are just getting a few post here and there, then it is better to have fewer forums. Again though, that is just an opinion.

Maybe I'm just being pickie or lazy or both but can we either make it so you can shrink the codebank section to just one line or move it below the .NET section? I'm too lazy to keep scrolling to the .NET section and it just got lower.

Stuck in the 80s
I'm in agreement. I wish the forums had the ability, or there was such a hack, that allowed you to collapse the categories like a TreeView.
There's quite a few that I don't regularly visit, and PHP (where I spend most of my time) is getting farther and farther down. I may be lazy too, but my mouse-wheel finger is starting to hurt.

Unless someone has a major complaint, I'll move the CodeBank on Monday. I'll move it after "Other Programs" and before "Projects".

I don't really have a complaint, but it does make more sense to have it where it is now. It fits in with the Visual Basic stuff, and newer people may not even see it if they don't browse around much.
Personally, I'd just keep it where it is and hope everyone just gets used to it. But, of course, it's your call.
