    Windows ME not running properly.

    I have a problem with my system running Windows ME (yes, I know ME sucks) that I never had before. This started happening after I installed the Java Runtime Environment 1.2. When I start it up and log in nothing loads at all. I press ctrl alt del and I only see one item in the process list. So I reboot it, logging in using different names and all that, but still it refuses to work. What's wrong with it and what do I need to do to fix it? Thanks.

    Have u tried to start the PC in safe mode. If you can log in safe mode then remove 1.2 and then reboot normally.

    If it works then it might be related to Java 1.2, instead try installing 1.4

    Cheers.

    I've tried logging on in safe mode. No luck. It still doesn't run any program besides one, which I think is my printer software. I can use a boot disk to start the pc up in DOS, however.

    *bump*

    Anyone? This is pretty urgent, and I don't want to have to format the hard drive.

    Code:
    public void MyFunction
    {

    bool Format=true;
    string Me=null;

    if (Me=="all fails")

           {
             Format=true;
             MessageBox.Show("Me sucks...");
           }

       else
           {
             //again
             Format =true;
           }
    }

    I've tried logging on with different usernames, used safe mode, and started up in DOS. I still can't log in using Windows, but I can use DOS. By the way, I viewed config.sys and there was nothing in it. What does this mean...?

    I understand the frustration but try just one more thing.

    Reboot and bring the screen which allows u to go to safe mode. But instead of going to safe mode. Boot with Step By Step Confirmation or something like it.

    And see at what stage the boot process stops.

    Cheers.

    I'm just going to back everything up and format the hard drive. I got a program that keeps long file names so I won't have to worry about all the annoying, short filenames. Thanks anyways.

    A piece of advice.

    Don't go for ME again. Go for 98SE or 2000 Pro or XP Pro.

    98SE if you want to play games.

    Wait, I got everything working again! I didn't have to format the hard drive or reinstall anything. If you want to know how I did it, I restored the registry from a recently backed up one. I didn't know that feature existed until now. Silly me. Anyways, thanks for your help guys.

    No problems.

    Just that when u have a solution please put {RESOLVED} to main post title by editing it. Makes it easier for others to look and for new members it's inspiring.

    Cheers.
