That depends on what you define a chicken egg as - an egg laid by a chicken or an egg that a chicken will hatch from. The first chicken egg can't be both.

A) The Chicken
Well if what the egg is laid from doesn't have to be a chicken then its the chicken. An animal evolved(not overnight of course) laid an egg that was different, and eventually made the chicken of today.

in order to solve this problem conclusivly I set up several races.
- 100m sprint
Put the chicken and the egg on the road and some chicken food and some egg food 100m away
The Chicken Came First, then got run over. The egg didn't put much effort into the race.
- Swimming
Put the chicken and the egg in a swiming pool and some chicken food and some egg food on the other side
The chicken came first, the egg sank indicating it was fresh.
- Driving
Put the chicken in one car and the egg in another car, put some chicken food and some egg food 10 miles away.
The chicken didn't know how to drive so it got out and walked, The egg noticed there were no seatbelts and refused to race.
The chicken came first but the egg won the moral victory for its stringant staftey standards
- The egg/chicken and spoon race
Put the egg on a spoon and shove a spoon up the chickens arse, put some chicken food and some egg food 50m away
The Chicken came first
I've never seen a chicken run so fast, it had finished the race before the egg even realised what was going on.
- Cross country
Put the chicken and the egg on one side of a desert and some chicken food and some egg food on the other side.
The Chicken put a good effort in and then died before it finnished, the egg still didn't put much effort in, until 3 days later when it broke and there was a chicken hiding in it. This explains why the egg hadn't been pulling it's weight, because it was a chicken spy letting the chicken win all along. Then it got eaten by a snake.
Conclusion, the chicken came first because it cheated.

The chicken is the egg's way of reproducing itself.

Well, if you beleive in god, the chicken was created.
If you beleive in evolution, the chicken evolved.
So, the answer? The chicken.. LOL

The egg.
The egg came first. The animal that laid the first one had not quite evolved into a chicken.
