Question Windowed PCs, lights and other PC mods

I was just wondering what everyones views are on modified PCs, like PCs with windows in the side and all that, if you still don't get what I'm on about Click here.
Personally I reckon if your gona spend a lot of time using your PC, e.g. programming, then it might be nice if it looked good aswell. Mind a lot of people I know that work with there PC prefer to think of it as a box that shouldn't be seen .

What's everyone else's views and has anyone else modified their PC?

If you take your computer to LAN parties, maybe for some show off coolness facytor, but otherwise, waste of money. Id rather spend the cash on upgrades

I've modded my PC but only to add functionality (ex. put in a new place for a case fan, 7 volt fan mod, etc). I wouldn't get one of those lights or anything.

The only mod I would want, is those Rounded IDE cables. Easier to deal with than those flat pieces of junk.

Did the 7 volt trick make your fans much quitier? I've been meaning to try that out. Talking of cooling what about water cooling for PCs, bit too much hassle personally, water + computers =
As for LAN parties I keep meaning to go to a proper one but haven't as yet, I have had my own when a few mates bring their systems round.

It works very, very well. I have ThermalTake "Smart" case fans (the 1st version), and at 7v they go at 46 cfm, 27 dB(A), so I just modded it and connected them both up. I can't hear them now.

I don't like all that . When I was 15 or so , I used to hide my porn cds inside the case and close it so my parents won't see them . So I like it vague and closed all the time . . My case is under the table , so I can benefit the left space for some cds and books .

Skip that and go straight to the SATA cables, MUCH smaller and faster too.

The case I wanted without a window was out of stock so I got the one with the window. At first I was like many here, whats the point if its not an upgrade, but now its kind of nice. Although I lucked out and the windowed one was the same price (on sale) or else I wouldn't have done it. Although Aluminuim is well worth, especially if you LAN, they are SO much lighter.

I also disagree with computer+water= it should be computer+water=silent but cool

Hasn't Toshiba already come out with it's water based cooling system already? It's supposed to be an add-on, and it's small and compact, not a huge hassle. And it's safe, they've obviously taken into account factors involved when people like us use computers.

Yea theres plenty of water cooling stuff out there for PCs its just there quite expensive and aren't exactly necessary unless you plan to overclock, or live on top of a volcano. My processor seems super glued to my heat sink anyway, its definitly got more than heat paste keeping them together and I'm not taking a hammer to it.

Edneeis: Don't get me wrong I love the idea of water cooling its just I bit expensive and takes up a lot of room. What case did you get? I don't supose you know the name(or have a pic). Mines a aluminnium case aswell and I agree it is a lot lighter and feels cooler (don't know if it effects the temp inside tho).

As for the SATA cables I don't think there compatable with IDE devices are they tho? I'm yet to see a mother board which has the connectors for them as well.

I just want to add: Black(UV) lights are cool!

Actually I just switched to a LanBoy, its a bit small but nice. I'll take a few snap shots when I get home maybe. I switched to H2O mainly because of overclocking and noise, which is no trouble now. A lot of the new mobos have SATA now, both AMD and Intel. I have an adapter on my IDE and an nForce2 board. The adapter defeats the purpose of the speed increase but is slim and trim for sure, until I get an actual SATA drive. I just the lights on the fans in mine, kind of like yours.

Its small and you've got water cooling in it as well?? Another thing with water cooling I wasn't sure about was the deal with the electrolite? you know something about having more than one metal in water causes one of them to erode so your ment to put an electrolite in the system, but I don't get where you put it or do you buy them seprate or what?

Yeah on smaller cases you have to get creative and bust out the dremel to fit the water cooling but its all good. I've never had any trouble, but you have to clean it about every 6 months or 1 year. As long as you have a good reservoir then it is pretty easy.

    Here is what I got.

My case has a window on the side. I wanted to get some neon lights, but haven't found any yet. So, I actually strung up some battery powered christmas lights. And I have a few army guys strategically placed in there.

    No joke.

Edneeis, your case looks pretty spiffin' You should put some of that UV reactive shyte into the water to make it glow, I mean it REALLY looks cool if you have a black light in the case.

Edneeis: Case looks neat, is that blue rounded IDEs your've got there? I agree with Sastraxi tho UV dye in the water looks wicked with a black light.

The Hobo: Personally I would go for cold cathode lights instead of neon, neon lights are prity big and are ment to use more power (not sure about the last one). With a cold cathode there still bright and yor can put them just about anywhere. As for not being able to find any try these:
    UK: Extreme Cooling
    US: FrozenCPU
And I'm interested to see a pic of your PC as well.

Thanks. I thought about the UV reactive stuff but it stains the tubing so I decided to wait. Yeah I got a blue roundy for the floppy and a black for the DVDROM.

Pirate, yes that came with my motherboard but there are ones that are seperate. Motherboard monitor 5 is one but it sometimes is less than accurate.

You don't use water, you use a liquid they give you typically. Or you'd use distilled water which doesn't conduct electricity.

Tap water would not only conduct current but would also deposit minerals on the tiny pieces, clog them, and ultimately damage your cpu from failure. Just hot the pressure doesn't build and get your case all wet because once the liquid mixes with the dust on your board it may conduct and fry many, many parts.
