Looking for good ASP host with SQL access.

Preferably unlimited bandwidth and like 50mb space or more - but thats all I need.

I'm on a tight budget ya see but I own the website "www.hoverrace.com" and have ASP code for it that needs SQL access.

Oh and preferably of the £ currency but $ is fine :P

    Thanks in advance.

Would BASIC allow me to use SQL connections (database info to ASP) or would I need E-Commerce?

    Because I'd pay $10 a month but not $50

If you intend to use Access for the database online you don't need either - MSSQL is SQL Server which is like a bigger version of Access that can handle more requests etc. MySQL is the open source equivalent to MSSQL. Generally speaking hosts allow Access connectivity as standard.

Check out - http://www.cwcs.net/entry.html as well.

Forgot that I've just looked - mostly downloads. OK well do some calculations - have you got access to the site statistics?

Work out roughly how many visitors you get a month and the average download size for each visit and you know what bandwidth you need to get. It might be cheaper than just going for host that gives unlimited bandwidth.

    Well...

There are no downloads really. Besides a 6mb one.

    I run www.hoverrace.com ya see.

I want to use ASP and be able to use SQL connections to my db if you get me.

    Not much else besides that.

I think you are getting a little confused. SQL (structured query language) is only used to communicate from webpages to a database.

All the databases mentioned so far (MySQL MSSQL and Access) allow this. However the hosts stating they support MSSQL and mySQL actually have these databases installed on their servers (mySQL and MSSQL databases aren't quite as easy to use as copying a .mdb file onto the server like with Access).

    Hope this makes sense.

Answer me this then to clarify...

I want to access my MDB through my ASP - what do I need my host to provide?

    hosting

    www.stargateinc.com

offers ASP or Linux hosting with SQL Server, 300MB storage, 5 or 10GB bandwidth for $9.95 a month. and $7 domain names if you buy them in groups of 20 ...

course your guess is as good as anyone's as to when their servers will be up and when they won't .. lot of hangs on their primary website, hopefully dedicated hosting servers are less loaded.

    mysql

mysql is great if you don't mind having to use a primitive shareware console application, or better yet doing all your database operations in sql at the command prompt.

oh yeah and you get to use PHP with it!!! which means you will also be doing all of your coding by hand with no visual tools worth a crap. php is latter-day perl - ok for limited-scope behind-the-scenes tasks if that's all you got to work with.

asp is crap also, but it's crap with a mountain of good development tools out in the world. but with php's brand of crap you get an almost-guaranteed ugly website in the bargain. i honestly think it was developed by someone who'd installed Linux dammit and they were by god gonna run a website on it, presumably after exhausting the charms of playing with a 3-button mouse ...

lol, sorry php/mysql guys, i didn't mean that YOU have ugly web sites. it's those other PHP guys )

I have the perfect host for you. http://www.winsave.com They have ulimited bandwidth, and 100 mb of space. They have full web site stats and the fully support ASP and SQL with MSAccess. What I mean by that is that you can connect to a database, submit and SQL query and have the results displayed on a web page. This sounds like everything you need. It's only 8.95 a month or something like that. I hope it works out for you. I have a web site with them. It's called http://www.ownersequity.net.

    winsave

i like winsave too, nice featureset. there's no reason not to use someone like them unless you need sql server. one host i uses wants $20 a month extra for that, but i get 600mb storage, 40gb traffic a month and sql server for $19.95 at stargate. hard to beat, but for high-volume sites.
