Power Failure !! Whats the consequences?? [resolved]

    hi all,

    I have a P4 2.4ghz. It has 1 cd-rom, 1CDR-W, network card, 6 ven-fan, 1 ext-ven fan for my Radeon 9000 pro display card, 2 hard disk, quantum and a maxtor.

I computer doesn;t seems to start when turn it on from my room. It does not even go into the boot screen (a few beep if it does). The red LED is on all the time, No signal is sent to monitor.

At that time, i can open up my cd-rom and it does look like the computer is coming up but in actual fact it doesn't.

However when i move my comp to another power point to start. It works.

Can anyone explain me why could this happen ?

Will this do a huge damage to those boards and all.. Please advice.

    Thank you

You mean putting it on another outlet? Odd...i'd get an electrician to look at your house wiring if that were the case (and avoid using the strange outlet).

Just put it on a different outlet for now and run it for a while...if nothing dies the you're okay. Or something like that.

Could it be that you're trying to use the computer in a socket meant for smaller applicances? It could probably be insufficient amps in that particular socket... then again, I don't know much about Malaysia.

Actually I am using the computer in my room. All this while its okay. Most probably is because the sockets got a little too old and the electricity going in is not good. Therefore causing these troubles.

Maybe i am lucky enough that it doesn't kill my hard disk or some of the circuit board when it happens.

But still i like to know if it could already does the damage.

At the mean time .. just gotta use the computer without privacy in my own room .. hahaha..

    thanks guys

You don't have to worry about that. It's surges you have to worry about more than lack of voltages, so I'd say you're safe. Go ahead. Connect it to two AA batteries.
