Question Windows 2000 pro doesn't boot up

When I try to start my computer it won't boot up. I get an error that says my ntoskrnl.exe file is missing or corrupt. How can I reinstall a copy of this file?

Using a boot disk, or whatever means necessary, boot into DOS.

You have to edit your boot.ini file, and check for an entry that looks like this:

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\winnt="Windows NT workstation"
Work with the partition values, reboot after each change.

Also, you'll find ntoskrnl.exe on the Windows 2000 CD. It has to be copied to c:/winnt/system32/ folder.

If your drives are NTFS you may have to use the Recovery Console

Another Option is repairing the Install

    • If it is relevant state the version of Visual Studio/.Net Framwork you are using (2002/2003/2005)

I don't know about Win2K. Perhaps some other member here with Win2K can tell you.

    My guess is C:/

    you should also try C:/windows/
    C:/windows/system32/
