Norton Subscription (new prob)

I got a 90-day subscription with this Norton Antivirus.

The 90 days are up, and now I get a message saying that my subscription is over. However, I've still been able to download the latest antivirus definitions.

What is this subscription about? And how does its expiration affect me?

Never mind... the window said "Expiring soon," I don't know what I was on to have read it as "Expired."

When the subscription expires you wont be able to update the virus definitions any more. There is a simple fix for this. Uninstall norton antivirus,live update, live registration, then search for 'Symantec' in your computer and delete all folders related to symantec in Application Data folders and Common Files. Then reinstall Norton AV, but remember that before installing it again move up the system date for example to 2010 and after install take it back to present date. Now it wont expire in 90 days.

I wont recommned and I don't do this way but search in KaZaA and u will get a full version.

It is the full version. They still require a subscription to their services.

Even that version has the 1 year limit that will be lifted by this method.

You would think that the program would be smarter than that....

"Today is 7 years before I was installed. The 90 day trial doesn't expire for another 2647 days. Hmm. No matter."

I've tried this once and ran into endless reg problems . Install new XP , install Norton , ghost it , use it as when it expires (this ghosting thing won't take more than 6 minutes max ).
Just a thought ...

Ghost can restore application installs?

Regardless, assuming Ghost would overwrite all config files, you would still have to play with your computer's clock.

I think those who write the program are really aware of that. But in the world of free and cheap antiviruses they dont care for some users like us that dont pay for the AV and its subscription. They are paid enugh by large corporates not to be dependent on us.

I have tried that on more than 100 PCs with Win98, 2K and XP. Never ever had a reg problem.

By the way, I think even that one year is enugh. When the year is gonna end you will find out that the new version is out

OK, thanks for the tip... no subscription problems now.

But there's a new problem: currently, double clicking the Norton icon in the system tray attempts to open cfgwiz.exe (the configuration wizard), and for some reason, it's not opening. All I need for it to do is to pint to navwnt.exe... how can I do this?
