its letting me start a new project in visual c and everything else, but not visual basic...

Does it give you the option (ie. can you select VB Windows Application from the window?)???

Nope, i can select it down the side, but cant select okay or anything because i cant pick a project type

Maybe your file structure under the VS.NET 2003 folder got corrupted somehow? Under the Vb7/VBWizards folder you should have a WindowsApplication folder that contains a Template and Scripts folders. Make sure there is a default.js file in the Scripts/1033 folder. Make sure there is 4 items in the Templates/1033 folder (the vbproj file, the app.config, the Form.vb, and AssemblyInfo.vb).
Then make sure the WindowsApplication.vsz file is in the Vb7/VBProjects folder.
Besides this, maybe repair your installation?
