It's obvious that we have no more say. They like to let us think we do. And of course they get mods who "approve" of the Ads. The only 2 good mods left are plenderj and martin liss. This sux. The site was doing fine before. Are these bastards that cheap? If one man alone [karl] can handle this site without ads, you'd think they all could do it too. *******s. rott in hell. go ahead and ban me. This site is getting more annoying by the day but its the only place that has good help [no offense galah] so why dont we all move to galah and screw this place.

Mate, all Galahtech needs to increase the level of support is people. Join up. Answer questions, and so too shall your own be answered.
Above all, we listen to the membership. Just have a look at the raft of initiatives we've put into place (some of which this place has subsequently copied, in an effort to pretend they're listening).

Karl bought and sold this site to make a quick buck.
And all of the mods were opposed to the dell ads - none of us knew about it.

I din't like the ads, but I got used to them and I don't really "see" them any more. I didn't like the Dell "posts", but after all, once you know what they are, what's the big deal. It's not much different than having any other sticky at the top of a forum. I basically think that dell will find that they get little or no business from them and one day they will be gone. Until then I just plan on business as usual - giving and getting good answers here at VBF.

Did you edit your post yourself or was it edited for you - or even worse were you forced to edit it?

How about you just create an Advertising Forum like right down at the bottom of the forum list. Then everyone who wants to advertise something can get their urges out of the way there.
Members could advertise their own products their as well.

Oh also because of Jesus4u's religious spamming and what not.
Personaly I loved J4U's posts and the "debates" that sprang up from them (untill they became elementary name calling games) but when he was banned was when I quit.
I'm off to GalahTech, hope to see you there.

I deleted your thread because it had nothing to do with forum feedback, and was simply advertising a rival forum.

I would, except it was authorized, so its a legitimate post.
But, what I would say, is that its not a banner or popup or anything intrusive.
There are sticky threads created all the time.
But because its an advert, there's now a big hulla-baloo about it

what does a popup ad selling a DELL have anything to do with VB? or in that case, anything in this forum.

This forum is owned by Jupitermedia Corporation - and if they wish to use it as a tool for advertising, then it is their right to do so.
As such, ads have nothing to do with VB, but then again, think about Formula1 Racing Cards - what do they have to do with AMD or Cigarettes or any of the other products or brands that are plastered all over the cars.
Its just a way to advertise.

Well actually the adverts in F1 are all over the car, the driver's overalls, and sometimes on the helmets aswell
Anyway yes I do agree I thought it was annoying - but its not actually in your face at all.
Its quite discreet if you ask me...

So ? Are you afraid of competition ??? You better be, because this place begin to stink big time. What may happen in the nearest future is that the "core team" will leave to some place else and you will have hundreds of newbies asking each other questions that non of them knows the answers yet. And eventually they all will say: we cann't get decent answer, so we outta here.

The "core team" to which you refer already left when Karl Moore bought the site. We're coping just fine.

How exactly is this an insult ?
A company that owns a website, is using that website to make money.

If you truly believe that, then you really need to get out more. Its just a forum, after all.
As for the adverts, they are annoying, but far less than popups or that crap that floats around the screen on some other sites.
Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you just water down your vodka.
Take credit, not responsibility

McGenius: As you probably know, I didn't like the idea of the Ad posts either, but once I realized that they are here to stay I knew I had two choices: I could rant and rave pointlessly and make myself unhappy in the process or I could leave. You also of course have those same two choices and while I would not like to see you leave, if it would make you happier I think you should.

It indeed is... BUT, it is also a privilege to this forum that many professionals are spending time with it, helping others with less knowledge. Or asking for help themselves. The forum exists by the activity of its members. Without members (or if you scare them all away), then this forum will be dead...
Just my two cents...

Hey, I don't approve of the ad at all, but you don't need to target Jamie. He's just standing up for these forums, and having to do it alone because no one else will. Think about how much help people have gotten and will continue to get from this site. Even with that sticky there most people will still hang around. Hey maybe if the advertising guy sees this thread he'll delete it on his own.
