There have been constant wars going on somewhere throughout the globe for thosands of years. If World War III was going on you would know about it.

World wars are not a combination of many smaller wars but when most countries of the globe fight a war and separate between two sides e.g
Axis vs Allies (WWII)
Germany vs Allies (WWI)
not multiple wars that have no influence on one another.

WW3 was the cold war (which wasn't so cold in the interface countries) so that means that the war against terror is eaither not a world war, or it is WW4.
In the last centruy (1901-2001) 75 million combatants lost their lives in war. [according to dicovery channel advert...] whereas in that same time up to 300 million people died of Malaria and nearly 600 million died of TB and who can imagine how many died of famine. Yet military spending is still the single biggest component of most countries' budgets

Much of sub-saharan Africa is under threat of famine due to AIDS, which has basically stripped out the productive members of society so the land goes untilled and there's no working population to generate revenue to buy food.

I still am slightly confused. The list I had posted is current (as of April 2003), covers 80% of the globe's geography and its participants (including non-comabatant civilians, who nevertheless are affected severely) comprising some 70% of world's population. Why cannot it be termed "World" in such a case?

To be serious, and even though it's pretty clear you are not, "world war" implies a larger number than two countries involved in the same conflict. Look over whatever history source you're comfortable with and compare WWI and WWII with the conflicts you mention above.
Some of the combatants of WWI:
France
Germany
Britain
USA
Russia
Italy
Bulgaria
Response to WWI brought about the League of Nations, and it was truly a world-changing war.
Some of WWII's combatants:
China
Japan
Britain
Germany
Russia
France
Italy
USA
Poland
Ethiopia
Czechoslovakia
Scandinavia
WWII brought about the United Nations, and also was a world-changing war. In both of these wars, the pattern of allegiances connected all the participants in two loose "sides"; while the conflict was spread out over a large geography, it was and is considered part of a greater whole.
And to the snotty comment about the US starting world wars: Remember that WWI and WWII both went on for some time before the United States became involved.

Don't worry I think everyone knows that the "civilized" countries in Europe have been killing each other for thousands of years now. Plus they have started the last 2 World Wars. I think everyone in Europe should be tired of Wars by now but who knows.

I know this may sound disgustingly rude...but...Arc...please do take some time out to answer these
1) have you ever had sex?
2) do you have children?
3) have you ever stepped outside the US of A?
4) do you ever watch a non-sports programme on the TV that does not have a background score?
"Brothers, you asked for it."

Most of the people in Africa are so *****ing stupid. They think the cure for AIDS is to have sex with young (and I mean young!) virgin girls.... Wow, and they wonder why its spreading?
You'd think those idiots would realize it's not working when they keep *****ing spreading it.
Those idiots deserve what they get.
... But I don't think they're actually that stupid... They just use it as an excuse to get young booty.
